Multipro Tailgate Speakers

Lots of responses already but I'll add my 2 cents. My truck had them when I bought it used. I like them but I wouldn't pay extra for it. It's super convenient to have them always available and not have to charge a portable speaker and they get pretty loud. Sound quality is fair but the convenience is the best part of it.

Wondering who has the tailgate speakers and what are your thoughts. Pros/Cons. How often do you use them, are they good, are there any upgrades... Looking at either the speakers or the lights for the tailgate. If I go with the speakers, I can always add lights to the bumper
I haven’t used them as much as I thought I would for a couple of reasons. 1) when camping at campsites, the parking areas are sometimes too far away. 2) The sound is pretty tinny (not much bass). 3) with so many portable Bluetooth speaker options, it is not as convenient. With that said, it is nice for tailgating and having a cold drink after work.

I purchased the truck with the optional feature. While they work fine when I'm near the truck, I have encountered an issue where I need to frequently remove them from my phone's Bluetooth list. Even after turning off the truck, they remain on. Additionally, when I use my phone close to the tailgate, they connect without my intention, unless I manually disconnect them.

I wonder, is the power wire already there, hidden by trim?
No, the speaker system comes with a wire harness that runs power from the trailer plug up through the tailgate into the amp. I just left that harness and used those wires. If you don't want to run power from the trailer plug (which is nice because it's always powered whether the truck is on or off) you can splice into the wire for the tailgate light by the camera, but then the lights you add will only come on with the interior switch that controls the tailgate light.

To OP's original post, I decided to ditch the speakers because I heard they didn't sound great, that the Bluetooth was erratic, and mainly because I just didn't see myself ever really using them.

You can add lights to the kicker tailgate speakers, also.
Huh, I wasn't aware you could have both. Mine came with the Kicker Audio pre-installed. I may have to grab the lights when they have another sale and put those in.

If you look hard, you will see rubber plugs where the lights will go. You just un-clip the lights from the filler plates and install where you remove the kickers rubber plugs...

Yeah I just found a YT how to when you have the kicker system. Seems simple enough, this guy went with the $27 option instead of the GM ones. Not sure how good they are comparatively, but to each their own.

I went with the $27 option thru Amazon on all 3 trucks. No complaints with them. Nice wiring harness length, with correct connectors.

The only thing in that guys video that bugged me is that the Amazon version of lights didn't sit snug in the OEM holes and were kind of loose in there. Do yours have that same issue? If not, which ones did you get? Looking at Amazon there appears to be a slew of options
