I do think it was worth the money (since it was too expensive). I have had it on a few fords and missed that (my wife has one on her explorer). It unlocks all the doors just like when you hit the unlock button on your fob. I like it for whenever I need something inside it when I forget the keys (and when needed without keys).very nice. Do you think it's worth the money? Does it open just the drivers door or all of the doors. I know on my mom's old ford it was drivers door and then push in the code again to unlock all of the doors.
My problem with it is that I don't know how much I would actually use it. I know it would be nice if I forgot something and run out to get it and I don't have the key in my pocket
Unclechichi.... Thanks for the update.. I have been thinking hard about it. I don't know how many times I have gone to get something out of my truck and had to go back inside and get the keys... I did not see/touch it before install. I’m not sure about a battery, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it needed to be replaced in a few years (stay tuned). I think it’s an adhesive like the badging that keeps it on. I’m not sure about the old style mirrors. I think you can have it mounted in a number of places since it is about 5in long and about 1in wide. The dealership I think has to connect it to the vehicle (calibration maybe?). My only complaint is that the numbers don’t light up like the ford explorer does when you run your finger across the numbers (so you can see what you are doing at night). Only complaint.Did you get to handle it before install? Is there a battery like the fobs that can be replaced? How is it held on? Does it look like it would fit where the old body style mirror was mounted?
Thanks for any or all questions answered.
The fords that I have had weren’t the telephone keys you mentioned (I do know what you are talking about though). The newer ones are more of a sensor touch, like a smart phone. The one button is use when I have the keys in my pocket, but the code is when I leave them inside the house or if I’m going for a run (or whatever) and don’t want to bring my fob. I dig it, but def not for everyone. You can also easily make your own code, so wouldn’t be too hard to remember. The keypad has been known as the telephone pushbuttons Ford has used for a long time. I have had keyless entry on my GMs and rather just push one button and open the door. No codes to remember. Sure, the fob has to be with me but so far, this old guy has not had with me. Just my 2 cents. I'm sticking with what GM uses.
That is why I was asking if it would fit where the old body style mirror mounted.I'm sure it works OK, but it seems odd to me that the keypad is not straight - that would drive my OCD nuts every time I got into the vehicle....
Yeah, that does drive me nuts. My work around is the tilt my head…now the whole damn thing is cantered.I'm sure it works OK, but it seems odd to me that the keypad is not straight - that would drive my OCD nuts every time I got into the vehicle....
