How to Connect I phone to use ai phone Data

Problem solved. I didn’t end up needing a shortcut. I spent some time with pinebaron on the phone and he walked me through the setup. It required a bit of tweaking on my hotspot page on my iPhone, a reset of the dash and recognition that my cell signal at my house isn’t super strong. I’ll be trying it again later today but so far I’m a happy camper. Many thanks to pinebaron and all who offered up info!

I did it that way at first but found it a pain to manually connect phone data each time I started truck using a shortcut program makes it automatic

It’s odd. It seems to be staying hooked up. I’ve turned off the truck, walked away with the phone, etc and it hooks up automatically. Time will tell….

Thats exactly how its meant to work; if it does not, you may have incorrect settings on your infotainment or phone.

Hey CDNSS. It turns out my phone hotspot didn't hook up immediately every time so i set up the automation as you suggested and that appears to ensure its on each time i start up. Do you also run a second automation to ‘unhook’ the wifi when you turn off your truck as the instructions you sent indicated? Is that step needed? Thanks for the help!!

Never needed automation of any kind; simply need to setup things correctly on your truck and phone. I helped DgHill above correct his settings for which I helped him on the phone.

HI pinebarron, I have not been successful with this at all. I've connected my iPhone 15 hotspot to my car. To connect to my car upon start, I have to go into settings open connections and hotspot and then open hotspot on my phone and toggle this Maximize Capability slider in my phone settings to get it to connect. Not ideal. I have not setup an automation but prefer not go that route. Any help would be appreciated on how to properly set this up,

I have not tried yet. Never did one, but am open to it. I've never setup an automation and didn't see any specific on how to do it. Just saw some were able to do it without it. Any chance you can walk me thru it? lol

Im no expert so may be other ways , put Shortcuts ap on your phone , open & go to “automation” to set up
turnnon Hotspot when carplay connects
Tiurn off Hotspot when carplay disconnects
Google has lots of how to on automation

My phone connects to CarPlay as soon as ai sart truck then the automation runs may take 30 sec or so to connect then you can go to the GM built in Nav etc and it will run using your phone data
Sometimes it does say you need as subscription but just ignore ot will connect

so i did the shortcut automation but it still does not connect immediately.

not sure what is going on, but it seems like the only way it connects is open hotspot setting on my phone and open wifi connections on GM system, then toggle the maximize compatibility toggle, then it finally connects.

It doesn't even find my phone unless i do that. At least it does not show up in available devices until i toggle the Maximize compatibility switch (which I do not even know what it does lol)

any other ideas that could help? Appreciate it!
