High Idle

Hah! Never used it, perhaps once only. Heres a recap more for me than anyone else.

Required Initial Conditions
These conditions must be met for Fast Idle to work:
1. Park Brake must be set
2. Transmission/PRNDL must be in Park (P) or Neutral (N).
3. The Brake must not be pressed.
4. Vehicle Speed must be zero.
Enable (Turn ON) Fast Idle
After the Required Initial Conditions above have been met, you can Enable Fast Idle by pressing and releasing the Cruise Control “ON” switch, the LED indicator on the switch will illuminate.
Preset Fast Idle
After the Required Enable Conditions above have been met, you can engage Fast Idle by pressing and releasing the Cruise Control “SET” switch to achieve the single preset fast idle speed of 1000* or 1200* rpm *depending on vehicle model, year and engine application
Disable (turn off) Actions
Any of these conditions will cancel Fast Idle:
1. Turn Cruise Off. Press and Release the Cruise Control “ON/OFF” switch.
2. Press and Release the Cruise Control “SET” switch while in high idle.
3. Press the brake pedal.
4. Press and Release the Cruise Control “CANCEL” switch.
5. Release the Park Brake.
6. Move the Transmission Shift Lever (PRNDL) from Park (P) or Neutral (N).
7. Apply the accelerator pedal greater than 25%

I never understood the part of being in Park and Speed zero. It just makes my head tilt! 😁

I am not in the habit or do I live in an environment where I feel the need to idle for longer periods of time. It is rare but I can tell you my gas HD has shut off while idling after about 20 minutes.
Same except when it's 20-30 degrees out. Then I do idle to get close to operating temp. Otherwise I don't idle.

Good info guys. I guess I need to purchase the High/Fast idle for $200.00. I'm assuming it is strictly software??
I don't think I was clear on my needs. I will not need an extended idle on a regular basis, just those few times in the winter when defrosting or warming up the truck, and occasionally when sitting in my truck between hikes/hunts in the winter or summer.
I read in the supplemental and all over the internet not idle the truck at all. Seemed like a weakness of modern diesels.

It's because of emissions

So you guys are thinking: Idle the truck as much as I need and don't think twice about hurting any components?

The truck will shut down itself, if it gets hot, looses oil pressure or gets low on fuel.

Personally, I wouldn't give a second thought.

Yes but only under high idle. Even more important is for you to monitor regens either via idash or edge cts. And you can do a stationary regen with either. Never turn your truck off under a Regen and if you're at 90%+ and about to idle and not drive for 30 miles then do a stationary Regen.
