Just measured. garage opening is 82.5 inches tall, and truck fits under by about 1.5 inches or so just fine.
Thank you for sharing. I’m at 79.25 with my opening. Gonna wait for it to be delivered before I tear it apart. Fingers crossed as the last thing I want to hear my wife say is I told you so haha.

Ohhh 79.5 is definitely going to be super sketchy 😅. I'd go ahead and assume it's not going to clear 79.5, I was sweating with mine. But I wish you luck! Don't forget to check the length ... I was shocked how much longer it was than I thought. I had 1 inch to clear the door closing.

I leave mine outside except for the rare hail storm threat or other crazy weather. I did a ceramic coating, window tint all around, and maintain the paint like crazy so that helps me feel better about it being outside most of the time..

I am a freak about my trucks. I treat them better than I treat my kids. It has to go into the garage because we have sketchy weather where I live. A portion of the roof may end up being built into the floor of my upstairs bedroom….but it’s going to fit haha.

Love it haha.

Either I missed it, or you never posted your garage door open height.

You'll have more room that you think. I go through this (stressing out about the height) with every truck I buy. Everything measures out super close, but ends up fitting without a problem. If you have a standard 80" opening, you're all good, fin and all. My 2024 2500 AT4 fits right in.

You may have to adjust your garage door opener to bring the door all the way to the top. When I bought my house, it went up 4" short of the top opening. It was a simple adjustment to fix. I wouldn't make any construction changes until you get the truck in your driveway.
79.25 inches is the opening and I adjusted the door all the way up so the opening and door are now the same. I agree with you, will keep the tools holstered until my truck gets delivered.

I assume you have a 7' garage door header? That is common for a 7' garage door. You will lose an inch or two with your garage door, depending on the door. And let's say you have your garage door header and sides bucked out. Usually it is bucked with a 1x6 or 1x8, plus the weather stripping trim. Could be bucked out with a 2x6 or 2x8, plus weather stripping. But none of that should be what prevents a 79.5" truck from clearing, it will be the how well the garage door pulls back and tucks up at the top.

I have never had a truck that didn't clear a 7' garage door opening. I had my 2014 Sierra Z71 with a 6.5 BDS lift on 35" tires. It was close, but it cleared. I can't remember the height of the top of that truck (I did measure it but can't remember), but again, that truck cleared.

Obviously take it real slow when you pull in the first time and put your head out of the window to watch. If you have an old garage door that for some reason doesn't tuck up as high as normal ones, you should be fine.

BTW, where in NE are you? I don't live in NE anymore, been in Montana for 22 years, but northeast NE is where I grew up.

Thanks for the input! I’m in Omaha but Montana is where I’d like to end up lol. House was built in 1955 and has a door that actually measures 79.5. It is odd.

That kind of explains it - house 68 yrs old, it was just not framed with a header height of an actual 7'. I have framed/built hundreds of houses, and we always take into account the buck around the door. Usually we put the header at 86" at least to accomodate a 2x6 or 2x8 buck, plus a 1x6/8 buck plus maybe another half inch for the weather stripping. But being built in 1955 whoever framed it did it without taking those things into consideration.

I hope you clear. Sounds like it is goiing to be razor thin close. Tearing out a header, with probably siding etc, is no easy job. I'd probably rip the bottom of the header (still not easy) so that you can get another inch or so clearance. But that still will likely mean doing siding work also, etc.

If you have a pic of your garage from the outside front, I could get a better idea of what you are going to need to do. If that header is bearing any significant weight, again, it is going to be a chore to remove it. You will have to put in a temporary header tight to the ceiling of your garage a foot or so back from your header. I would never tear out a garage header without some temporary support in place. Sounds like it could be a day or two job.

Never lived in Omaha, but did live in Lincoln for 13 yrs. Went to school at NU, and ended up staying in Lincoln and building houses there before I moved to MT. I like MT, but the winters here are LONG. 8+ months of winter weather is realistic. I like NE, but don't think I will be moving back. If I move from MT, which I have been considering for years, it will be to a more temperate climate, but still someplace with either mountains or closer the a coast/ocean.

Good luck on getting your truck to fit!

2 things I would get for sure. Curt tail gate protector and screen saver on Amazon comes with 2 screen protectors for all three screens
Thanks! I get the tailgate protector, but can I ask why the screen protectors? Are they prone to finger prints or something?

I didn't remove factory screen film until my screen protector showed up and I installed it, so I don't know if it fingerprints easy. I just know I use one on my phone and after two years it looks as good as the day I bought it. So I figured it would keep it from scratching from dust

UPDATE……….IT FITS! Shark fin measures out at 78 1/8” using a 2 foot level and measuring off the ground. Even though it measured out, I was still puckered pulling it in for the first time. Hope this helps someone wondering about how actually tall these things are.

I actually had my 7'door changed to a 8' door so I could put a basket or rack on top of the cap on my 2018 Duramax w/35" tires. My wife wasn't happy but I was! ;)
