GM Accessories Under Seat Storage

If anyone in the NY tri state area, has the normal carpeted storage piece and wants to swap for the plastic storage unit send me a message

The biggest problem is I cant flip up the seats and have enough room for my dog to lay down on the floor when hes tired.
I am a bit concerned about space in the rear seats as well. I'm coming from a 2013 F-150 Platinum which had incredible space in the rear cabin, the AT4 doesn't quite compare. I want to add storage under the seats, but am concerned it will take up too much space for the dog to stand and lay down.

I've been looking for storage units with lids, but after seeing the above, I am not sure what to do. Did you pull out your storage all together?

I found someone to trade with for the standard factory unit thats just more of “edge” to keep stuff from sliding around. The GM box was the full size of the seat, so when you picked up the seat, you didnt gain any floor space. I needed the floor space for my woofer so he could lay down on long trips, and I didnt have to worry about stopping short and him sliding off the seat…

I love the underseat storage, it was part of my order. I store cleaning materials in the smaller one and other paraphenalia in the larger, like hitch, air pump, breaker bar etc. No guns :)

This is a quick review of GM’s factory under seat storage system, like others in the market it's made of plastic for durability and comes with two lids in the same 70/30 split as the seats. The system was easy to install and is a good size. To install the system you simply unbolt the factory carpeted storage unit remove the lids from the new unit by opening them 45 degrees at which point they come right off, then slide the new unit in place and bolt it down using the same hardware as the original unit. This leads directly into what I consider a significant problem, to place an item into the storage bin you need to open the lid to 45 degrees thus you end up with the lid in your hand because its designed to come off at that angle. The whole idea of buying the system with a lid was so items could be placed on top of the storage unit when required.

Normally it would not be a big deal but at $300 plus tax (Canadian) I think GM could do better!

I made a video showing the issue.

As you can see the hinge design doesn't allow the lid to lock in place when open.

I replaced the factory under seat storage for a larger one from rough country. It now fits my bug out bag. I think it could be a couple inches deeper but it is much better than the stock one in my 2023 AT4. The stock one was covered in material which I do miss. But the real estate gain was worth that compromise.

I also ordered the rear underseat storage from gm accessories online. It was delivered to a dealership for free in less than 24 hours and I used my gm points from the truck purchase. I have not installed it yet but I did have some mixed thoughts about it taking up more floor space. However I feel like it is similar to having a topper where it comes in handy more times than not. (I do plan to get a topper sometime). It will be nice for storage of guns and truck stuff. If I need more floor space for a trip maybe I can remove it and/or out the original?

Any thoughts on this? Saw a video on YouTube... Looked pretty solid. Love how it slides out. Looking for something to transport long guns to the range, hunting trips, etc.
Very interesting. I have the large GMC under seat storage I ordered when ordering the vehicle; despite its shortcomings I love it.

I wonder how the realtruck metal drawer behaves fully extended out with a heavy payload inside. I store a heavy duty Curt 17,000lb hitch, air pump and a bunch of other tools in the larger section, quite heavy stuff.

I bought the one from rough country and I like the added width front to back. Makes the space more functional than the factory one. The one from RC is not carpeted like the factory one which is my only complaint. IMO, there is no added benefit to a lid on the storage unless it is a secure lockable system. If I had the one shown here, I’d just toss the lids and let the seat be the cover. Otherwise, get an after market one.

After seeing a friend’s, I just ordered a Du-ha underseat storage unit for $190+ tax
Installed the Du-Ha today. Took about 10 minutes mainly because I didn’t have a deep well socket handy. Holds everything I wanted with room to spare, including two long guns. I’m a big fan so far

Indicates only for 2500 and 3500, bummer.

The cab on the 1500, 2500, and 3500 are identical. I have the Tuffy locking under seat storage box in my AT4X, but I had it in my 2500HD Ultimate before this truck.
You would think vendors would put more effort into fitment details. Their sales would increase, but maybe the sales are good enough by selling things that don't fit, even though their catalog says it fits! 😁

Maybe it's the manufacturer. Thinking it's sooo big and will hold sooo much, that it requires a HD to carry the load! 🤣
