This is a quick review of GM’s factory under seat storage system, like others in the market it's made of plastic for durability and comes with two lids in the same 70/30 split as the seats. The system was easy to install and is a good size. To install the system you simply unbolt the factory carpeted storage unit remove the lids from the new unit by opening them 45 degrees at which point they come right off, then slide the new unit in place and bolt it down using the same hardware as the original unit. This leads directly into what I consider a significant problem, to place an item into the storage bin you need to open the lid to 45 degrees thus you end up with the lid in your hand because its designed to come off at that angle. The whole idea of buying the system with a lid was so items could be placed on top of the storage unit when required.

Normally it would not be a big deal but at $300 plus tax (Canadian) I think GM could do better!

I made a video showing the issue.

As you can see the hinge design doesn't allow the lid to lock in place when open.

I agree! Have now had it 3 trucks. Have come long ago to realization that it will take flashlight and 4 cuss words to put top on. But must say- GREAT place to carry guns, etc

I was underwhelmed myself at first, also.

Once you use it enough you might understand why the lids remove themselves easily. If you have rifles stored in them or any other reason requiring 2 hands to remove items or organize, it's nice the lids come off so easily. If gm had to design a lid that had to stay up, while not using your free hand, it would cost twice, if not 3 times as much.

I don't usually give a free pass to companies stupid design flaws, but this flaw works for me. YMMV.

If anyone in the NY tri state area, has the normal carpeted storage piece and wants to swap for the plastic storage unit send me a message

The biggest problem is I cant flip up the seats and have enough room for my dog to lay down on the floor when hes tired.

I don't know what it would cost to ship, but I have 3 to give away if you don't come up with anything.

Hate to throw away, but I'm tired of hoarding.

Thanks for the offer, but I would guess Nebraska to NY would be more than the cost to buy one at the dealer..

Do u have three of the larger sets of storage bins. Would like to try out the larger storage space under the back seat

Yes, but the larger plastic gm storage bins are installed in the trucks.

I was offering the factory carpet style that comes with the truck.

Yeah, I don't know how such things are shipped for free from some of these big companies.

I have one and love it. Might I suggest, cause I have 2 labs- go to paws.com and order one of these, it was washable and waterproof. I had shop sew the attachments (3) they matchup with the headrests. Makes for easy, quick install and removal. Protects entire seat. 3C018EBB-CEDA-48D1-89ED-5F40639F1BE0.pngCE339E39-EE63-430B-A208-7A1F374E0BD4.jpeg9A874415-6BBF-46AF-8CE4-3DC0B0F61CBA.pngAnd if you wanna make it easy to get in and out diss. And I got to keep underseat storage for guns and etc.

The reason I like him on the floor is because when he sits on the floor, he is just high enough he can rest his head on the window edge and he can relax. When hes on the seat, he leans his head out, and I am always afraid he is going to fall out the window

Any thoughts on this? Saw a video on YouTube... Looked pretty solid. Love how it slides out. Looking for something to transport long guns to the range, hunting trips, etc.

I live in Syracuse, don’t know if you ever make trips north. I would make the trade.

Thanks for the offer, but I already traded mine not too long ago. Much happier to have the floor space instead of the storage box!! My dog likes it much better as well. His bed fits perfectly behind the drivers seat now.
