Fox 2.0 shocks review for 2022 Sierra AT4

No not personally however a friend has a 22 AT4 with them and boy what a difference. The reservoirs help disperse heat which helps with rebound ultimately making the ride smoother.

Interesting. I looked into the fox reservoir style shocks and I believe they are only available in the 2.5s for the AT4 and are pretty pricey. But if it improves it that much than it might be worth it.

I just had the Fox 2.0 shocks installed a couple days ago, front and back to replace the Rancho's. I have 7000 miles on my truck. Paid 804$ for the shocks and $625 for the 5.2 hour install. I was looking to get a softer , floatier feel for normal everyday driving. I mostly do highway driving, and out here in NJ the city / side roads are complete shit , potholes, torn up gravel from snow plows and 18 wheelers.

I did some research on suspension upgrades for the 2022 GMC Sierra , the 2 most popular replacement upgrades in my price range are the Billstein 5100 and the Fox 2.0. After my research I went with Fox because of the mention of more of a floatier feeling suspension.

I watched multiple videos , read some articles, and the thing that jumps out at me NOW is how most of the time the reviewers in these articles/videos seem to have a tough time determining if there is a big difference after the upgrade. I understand why... There is no HUGE , dramatic difference.

Here's some of the aspects of the Fox shocks that I was hoping to get a big improvement - compared to what I actually feel:

CORNERING - Same
HARD BRAKING - Nose will dive down more
HANDLING - Same
ROUGH GRAVEL/ ROAD - 20% improved softer feeling
BIG POT HOLES - 20% improved softer feeling
SPEED BUMPS - 20% improvement
HOLY SH%T HOLES ( turning hitting kaboom potholes that make the back of the truck fly out ) 40% better
HIGHWAY BUMPS 70MPH - 20%

I did get a .5 inch lift in the front that is cool and I like.

So overall they are a slightly better feel , not a huge difference/upgrade like I was looking for.

As far as price/budget... If I was to do this over again I would've waited until I had more $$$ to spend to get what I was looking for. But I had a budget , and the 2 most recommended / mentioned shocks in this price range was Fox 2.0 and Billstein 5100 . For $1429 total I am not Impressed . Knowing what I know now I would've just waited for the Ranchos to be replaced and paid $1429 for a replacement job because I NEEDED it ... then I would've been happy. The money would've been worth spending. Not happy spending the $$ on an "upgrade" that I wanted and I really didn't get or need.

I’ve read good reviews on the higher priced Bilsteins. Comparable to the AT4X DSS system at $2k installed.

I know your post is sorta old…but did you ever pull the trigger on the Cognito/Elkas? I’m kicking the idea of blowing a lot of money on your choice…or BDS/Fox 2.5’s. It’s a lot of money for either but I have a feeling it would be worth it in the long run.

I have not purchased the Cognito package yet, I’m working on getting the oil pan, trans cooler, and trans pan installed. I figured I would do the cosmetic stuff after.

I just recently upgraded my fronts to the bilstein front adjustable shocks and added the Cognito UCA’s, I already did my rears with the non AT4 size 5100’s and a 1 inch block and I’m very pleased with how complete the ride feels now with the addition to the front set up. Did everything myself in about 4.5 hours with my son interrupting me here and there.

I can agree with your review. But I did the eibach pro truck 2o up fromt with oe coils. Very nice. I have Fox 2.0 reared and the feel just like the ranch is as in slop. Bed stop bounces and rolls… I have eibach rear shocks coming to fix the stability. Fox sucks.. I also live in nj.

Eibach 2.0 rha non coil over works fine for a stock height at4 1500. Or shock on highest setting gives you factory measurements. Nice ride. Rears are little less the .45” shorted the oe Ranchos. But not enough to really effect you. Oe rancho etx length is 27.59 eibach are 27.19 ext length. Don’t by fox 2.0.. just like shock surplus videos stat. They gave rebound and are floaty. It the truck still sways bad.. I had both sides of the shock game. Atleast in the rear. Icon 2.0 digestive. Similar to Boston 510. Too hard. Controlled yes.But so stiff the truck rear skipped on small stuff. Fox 2.0 opposite soft. But sloppy. Almost has more body roll the oe Ranchos.. Eibach seems right in the middle.

I second that. Fox 2.0 are trash. I live in nj. Highway stability was better with blown out Ranchos. Do not buy Fox…. My fronts are Eibach and they were a much better improvement t. I’m swapping out the Fox 2.0 for eibach. Like driving a trash boat.. death trap

Okay dang guess I prefer a strange ride because I just installed the Cognito 1" with Fox 2.0 coilovers and the truck rides great! Still nice a soft and the Boaty bounce from the factory Ranchos is gone! I will say the rear didn't get much softer as I would have liked. It is definitely no stiffer but the improved rebound may give off that feeling. I do agree with K03303 in that a reservoir set up is much better as I had 2.5 Kings with resi on my last truck (RAM 2500) which was super plush on road and sucked up ruts and decent sized whoops out in the desert. I am working on fine tuning this truck for the ride and height I want. The Cognito only netted me approximately .5" so I added a little preload to get to 1". I was able to get a set of the lower "C" shaped shock mounts from Rough Country. They are part of their 1.75" kit and they sell it separately and advised they will offer approximately .75" on my set up. The diesel more than likely has to do with the amount of left I netted. Ill be adding the lower shock spacer soon so we shall see.

K03303 have you installed the Cognito 1" w/elka shocks yet? I know this guy did the same kit, I know it is on an Elevation but its the same kit as it gave him 3" which would be 1" for those of us with the AT4s. If ya haven't see it Ill attach the link bellow....

Yes, I installed the 1-inch leveling kit with Elka reservoirs, and if I were to do it again, I’d’ve gone with the standard Elkas.

A friend has the same truck with the standard Elkas, and there’s no discernible difference on the road.

However, off-road, the Elka reservoirs significantly improve the experience, but since I only go off-road for hunting season, the additional costs seem unreasonable. Either way, it’s still 100 times better than the GM Rancho socks.
