I hate those extended warranties they offer you when you buy the vehicles. They want thousands of dollars, and don’t openly tell you that it runs concurrently with the manufacturer warranty. They sell you on something like 70 months and 80,000 miles, or whatever… but that starts at mile 0 and day 0… But you already have the manufacturer powertrain warranty for 60 months and 60,000 miles. So you’re really paying thousands of dollars for an extra 10 months and 20,000 miles.
In the vast majority of cases you’re better off just throwing like $50-$100/month into a separate savings account that’s purely for your vehicle. When your manufacturer warranty runs out for the powertrain, you’ll have have several thousand saved up for any potential issues, and it’ll just increase every month… especially if you paid the vehicle off and throw a couple hundred a month into your car fund.
