Extended Warranty Question

I hate those extended warranties they offer you when you buy the vehicles. They want thousands of dollars, and don’t openly tell you that it runs concurrently with the manufacturer warranty. They sell you on something like 70 months and 80,000 miles, or whatever… but that starts at mile 0 and day 0… But you already have the manufacturer powertrain warranty for 60 months and 60,000 miles. So you’re really paying thousands of dollars for an extra 10 months and 20,000 miles.

In the vast majority of cases you’re better off just throwing like $50-$100/month into a separate savings account that’s purely for your vehicle. When your manufacturer warranty runs out for the powertrain, you’ll have have several thousand saved up for any potential issues, and it’ll just increase every month… especially if you paid the vehicle off and throw a couple hundred a month into your car fund.

I bought the 23 Sierra 1500 AT4 about 3 weeks ago and at the time I was asked if I wanted to add an extended warranty and declined it, now kind of wish I did get it..... What are you all using? GMC extended factory warranty or 3rd party. I contacted my selling dealer, he recommended "Protective Asset Protection" company, the quote was 84 months / 100000 miles coverage with a $100 deductible for $3591.00+tax. Does that sound reasonable? Are you guys familiar with that company? I also did a quick Google search and the search results were not very convincing.

Another question is, Should I wait until the bumper-to-bumper warranty runs out and then go for extended warranty shopping?
What did you decide to do? I’ve been talking to Knapp, my local Chevy dealer, and MacMulken for a GM Warranty on my ‘23 AT4

Is Knapp reputible? I looked at their plans and man, it's VERY good pricing.
I have a buddy who had it, the claims process was very cumbersome but most of the claims he had on his escalade were covered, I went through Autoguard which is through my dealership, for the last 4 vehicles I've had I've used 2-3x more than the warranty cost haha and never had an issue with claims, however it is more expensive $2,900 for an 8/100K and $4,100 for a 10/150K but with the added cost it has a lot more benefits that I've used and always been thankful to have.
