Banks iDash and the LZ0 motor

Since this a chat started about Banks iDash and the LZ0 motor I will describe what has been going on with mine and what I have learned from other group members and the Banks Tech support.
- I have installed the latest firmware, 124.7, which you have to get by email as the website only had version 124.
- There are two vehicle selections for the LM2, one says LM2 20-21 and one just says LM2.
- My current setup I got from @chaseydog and it is the 7 gauge set-up displaying:
REGEN
DPF RG% DPF SL%
DPFDIS DPFTIM MIN
DEFVL% DEFCMD
- When I run the LM2 vehicle selection all the gauges display at start-up but after about 30sec-1min the DPFDIS and DPFTIM MIN both go to dash lines
- When I run the 20-21 LM2 vehicle selection only the DPF SL% shows dash lines.

Tech support recommended I switch between the two and see what changes and stated that 20-21 might not have all the features. He said to continue to wait for firmware updates.

I recently had a NOx sensor go bad and that go replaced today and I have tried to switch between the regular 124 and 124.7 firmware updates and this is what I have come to find. I am curious about others and if they have experienced these kind of issues. I have unplugged an reseated both ends of the cable between the iDash and the OBD port.
Did you get this resolved. I got a CEL this morning which the iDash is telling me is related to a P2297 fault code. I believe this code may be thrown by a bad NOX sensor. Also noticed that the iDash stopped reading DPF DIS, DPF TIM and DPF RG% but is still reading DEF L. I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow to have it checked out.

Nope, I am working with Jeff C at banks, I sent him a video of my iDash. It goes out at about the 56 second mark. He is working with the engineers. I sent a follow up email this morning and will let you know. Basically I am having the same issue you are. My DEF fluid level flickers a little every now and then but still reads the level. My NOx sensor was replaced, it took the dealership about 4 or 5 days to get the part. You can drive with it but I did notice a drop in fuel economy.

Thanks. My iDash blanked out those readings about a week or two ago but they came back after driving around a bit. Other than that the iDash has worked without issue until I got the CEL this morning. Hopefully you’ll get an answer from Banks soon.

How did you know your NOX sensor needed to be replaced?

My CEL cleared later that day. Brought the truck into the dealer this morning. They confirmed the P2297 as a historical code but said GM doesn't have any service documents on the code, so other than keeping my eye on it, and coming back in if I get another CEL, there's nothing to do.

The service agent did caution me to remove the iDash before bringing it back into service, adding this note to my service ticket

Advise leaving any aftermarket products, even “monitoring” ones off until out of warranty. ANY aftermarket device can potentially void the manufacturer's warranty.

IM’d BanksPower after posting the above and asked if they had any dealings with dealers voidind warranties because of the iDash. They called me with the hour to discuss the situation.

The person I spoke with told me that he only knew of one time where a dealer had an issue with the iDash and threatened to void the owners warranty. Banks technical support called the dealer and covered what the iDash can and cannot do with the dealer. After speaking with Banks the dealer decided the iDash was not a reason to void the warranty. The Banks employee let me know if I ever need to have their tech people call my dealer they would be happy to do so. Kudos to Banks.

Got a response from Banks. They have a version .11 specifically for the LZ0 but it still is giving me the same error. After about 30-56 seconds the following gauges go blank.

It sure would be great if Banks would let people know they don’t have the software figured out before selling something that doesn’t work as advertised. It’s not like they don’t get access to these engines before we do…

I’m not generally a grumpy guy, but it’s damn irritating to pay $300 for the privilege of spending ten hours of my time trying to figure out how to make somebody else’s product work — even if they have the nicest customer service folks on he planet. If I’m going to serve as a test subject for trial-and-error-fixes I should be offered that opportunity in advance, and I should get the product for free. After all, my time is worth something.

Exactly. The main reason I use it is for knowing when I am going into Regen. At least that works. It would be nice if the other stuff worked though.

Following up, did you ever find a solution for the iDash issue. Same issue has been hitting me randomly. A reset usually fixes the problem but it popped up again earlier today and the reset is not correcting the problem.

I used the latest update and just switched to monitoring some different settings. It never started working properly. It would show the readings for a few seconds then turn off. The real reason I got it was to monitor regen and that part has always worked. The other stuff was a nice to have.

Seems like you should be able to send it back to Banks for a full refund and a request that they send you an email if they ever get it figured out. If you make that request 14 months from now it will be a much harder sell.

Maybe Edge has this figured out?

I’m a little nervous now, because I just pulled the trigger on the iDash x2. I thought it was fixed… Still no warning on their website saying only one of the many advertised features actually works… I’m hoping the bigger Duramax programming fit is better.

From what I can tell, @Uthanasia excepted, its not a widespread problem. For me its been an intermittent problem, that either clears itself with a reboot, or failing that clears itself on a restart or two.

I doesn't seem like its a widespread problem. I get the feeling that Banks is spread thin on engineering and that the iDash is not a high priority.
