When you use the GEN five plug-in what wire did you plug the yellow wire into?
I don't recall what the yellow wire is for; after plugging inline between the OEM plugs, there were two wires on my harness, one for positive for the lights, and one for negative.

I still have an extra set of these Gen5 harnesses (1.0 version) if anyone wants them.

Did you use the Gen5 connector? If so, what wire did you tap into for the power? Thanks
Mike: The Gen5 connector is completely plug and play. You don't have to tap anything for power. You just plug it inline to your oem taillight harnesses and you're good to go.

Wait, maybe version 2.0 of the harness makes you tap a power wire. If so, then disregard this.

I have the Baja Designs lights with the AEV brackets in my rear bumper. I ordered the plug and play harness from GEN5DYI, but was sent the harness for a 2500, not a 1500.
If anyone wants a 2500 harness, reach out to me- I just want it gone at this point.
But even trying to install the correct harness I ran into issues. Instructions were to splice into the 7-pin trailer harness- but this does not work on my 25' AT4x. The 7-pin does not have power unless the truck senses a trailer connected to it. Luckily, my audio guy was able to reconfigure the harness to work. One of the components on the harness was bad as well. For $150, such a disappointment.
I will be installing lights on the front (gonna go with the Baja Designs linkable), and will go with another company (BMC Lights) for the harness.
Will post up completed pics when finished. Just finished updating the stereo (2- 10" subs in box under rear seat, all new mids in doors & dash, new tweeters, 2 channel amp, 4 channel amp, and DSP). Sounds soooooo much better than the OEM stereo (which I can only describe as sounding like mud)

On the 25' 1500 AT4x, the current harness is not plug & play, and the directions are incorrect

I ordered the Gen5DIY harness but haven't installed the lights yet. I am hoping to do so this weekend. Did you ever get this to work? If so, any updates on the incorrect portion of the directions?

For my 25’ 1500, the instructions were to use the yellow wire from the DYI harness and splice into the power wire on the 7-pin trailer connector. What we discovered is that unless you have a trailer attached, the truck will not send power to the pin. My stereo guy bypassed this and ran it up front to connect to power. The lights work now and it completely fixes the dim light issue:

I installed the recommended (by AEV) lights in the rear bumper yesterday. It’s pretty easy, although when I pulled the insert off the drivers side, the plastic that holds the clips to the insert separated. They used a hokey “melt the plastic” method to join the two pieces, and I had to superglue it back together. This is on an AEV bumper on a $90,000 truck. I just shook my head. But it worked. Btw, gen5diy (google it) makes a plug and play taillight kit for the reverse lights, so you don’t have to splice into the OEM wiring. Email the owner exactly what you want at [email protected]; quality stuff, but not cheap.

I plan to do this also, what I really want to set up is the following...not sure if it is possible.
1. Install Baja lights like bobholdhaus
2. Have the lights come on in reverse
3. Also have the lights come on when I turn on the bed lights with the factory button.
4. Trying to avoid any type of additional aftermarket buttons on my dash

I would reach out to Gen5DIY and ask them if they can make you a harness that would work and allows for them to go on with the bed lights. That would be slick!

Dumb question. When making the cut on the inner bezel, did you just cut at the dotted line as pictured in the instructions? or did you take more? The location of the dotted line, seems like it is going to restrict some light.

The picture I provided I am pointing a pencil at the line that the instructions are ref to cut.

If I remember correctly I just cut exactly where your pencil point is. It’s just an easy guide to do it. Trust me these lights are so damn bright that a little bit of light blockage isn’t going to do a thing.
