AT4 overlander

2022 1500 AT4 6.2, Technology package is awesome for off road.
Been playing with this set up for the past year and a half…….biggest don’t I came across is the bed rack. Initially used a Thule xporter because it’s what I had, a lot of creeks and groaning on Medano pass. Went with an Xtrusion XTR3- life is now good.
Definite Do…….DC power, probably overkill but installed 2 100ah lifepo4 batteries, 50amp DC/DC charger. Can run an Iceco VL60, diesel heater and no worries about power.
Other stuff - FSR 80 tent and OVS 270 awning.
Older pics, pre Xtrusion.

Super nice rigs all, check mine out... so here is the question, I have a 2023 Sierra AT4 Duramax but when I plug my Iceco fridge in the cabin household plug to charge my ecoflow 1200mah battery it clicks on and off while charging and not even sure it is charging. This happens during driving and not and when I am running the fridge on it.....any ideas?

Super nice set up. Can you provide the tonneau, Yakima bar and tent specifics?

Nice rigs everyone!
I’m tagging in to follow the thread and share ideas whether I use this HD or downsize to the 1500 this fall.

So far I love the 2500 and I’m considering replacing the bed with a “tray” and canopy from Dirtbox.

Here’s another vote for Retrax, Yakima Overhaul, and Roofnest.

I’m so much wanting to do some overlanding but I’m just going to ground tent. If it ever got to be a regular thing, I may consider doing more. I just don’t want to take those racks and RTTs on and off and put my regular bed cover back on. But I am interested in finding out off-road range. I have the baby duramax and was watching some YouTube videos on some long trails. I get good mileage on pavement but what can you expect off-road averaging 10-15 MPH? Not sure if I should expect packing extra tanks. Hate that they put only a 24 gallon tank on truck

24 gallon tank is the worst thing about the 1500's. On my (now traded) 2020 AT4 3.0, I could get pretty good mileage, but a 28 gallon tank would have been great.

On my current 23 AT4X 6.2, 28 or larger tank would have made so much more sense. On the HWY (mostly interstate) I can get around 17 if not facing a stiff headwind or other similar things that would cut into mileage. But still, 400 miles is about as far as I want to push it before fueling up on long road trips. I frequently travel 1000 miles (OK, 998 miles to be exact) between where I live in Montana and where I grew up (and my parents live) in Nebraska. There are long stretches of I90 or other HWY's on that trip where towns with gas stations are far and few between. I mean, I have the route memorized, but still pay attention closely to the fuel level.

Many years ago, I had a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee (freedom edition) that stranded me (and my kids) about 10 miles east of Wall, SD. The fuel gauge stuck and I thought, man, I am getting great mileage on this trip! Nope, I ran out, and had 3 younger kids with me. Someone stopped and took us to Wall, where the gas station had a small gas can they lent me, which got me back to the gas station in Wall.

Anyway, as far as your 3.0, it really depends on how you are driving, conditions, etc. Backcountry/overlanding, I would personally probably bring a couple tanks stashed in the bed with diesel. Not that this is convenient, but it is better than getting stranded in no man's land.

Due to a serious funding shortfall earlier this year I had to postpone my full custom Overland build. But DirtBox Overland just launched a new product which looks like it could get me out there on the platform I'm running: 2024 2500 AT4X AEV L5P

I have a bit more research to do but if I can figure out the details I might grab it for a Christmas present. There are plenty of products to choose and I'm good at the design phase so kitting it out won't be a problem.

My main dilemma is according to their literature the canopy hatch must be opened and closed underneath of the tailgate. Their explanation goes something like "you must open the tailgate prior to opening the hatch and you must close the hatch prior to closing the tailgate". My issue is I cannot Figure out how I'm going to climb inside for the night close the canopy and then close the tailgate. I'm sure it's simple and I'm just having a brain fart but anyone have any ideas on closing the multi pro tailgate from the inside when it's fully deployed as a step? It's really the only thing holding me back for getting out in the wilderness longer then just a day trip.

If'n I was into that, I wouldn't hesitate to screw to the gates. I would use something like this with a short rope. Pull one end to close the main gate, then pull the other end for the mid gate after closing step...
