AT4 overlander

I do have the carbon pro bed. I have not looked into a camper bed/cap. I’m planning on installing a rack/roof top tent + retractable tonneau. After researching it should all work 🤞. I have a friend with an AT4 (not carbon) with a camper..

I've got a couple questions for you, if you don't mind.

Which rack will you be using? Does it mount into the stake pockets? Would the rack be high enough to accommodate an awning?

I've been having a hell of a time trying to find a rack that is compatible with my tonneau (it is a soft roll up, which is mounted to the inside edge of the bed rails). To the extent that I'm thinking about going the route of a cap.

I ended up making a DIY rack mounted to the stake pockets, just so I could use my RTT in the mean time.

If you have your build finished, would you mind sharing some pictures?

Thanks.

Crappy pics. I plan on putting the rack on the rails of the tonneau.
Also just debadged the tailgate. Dunno if I like that or if I’m going to go with the black “GMC”.

How was the trip? I also could not find a hard cap so I’m working on modifying the clamps that came with the softopper to work with the rail clamps from my lomax trifold hardcover tonneau. That way I can remove them fairly easily and have the full bed (5’8” lol) if I need it.

I've done two camping trips with this setup so far. Nice and light so I can still haul the Jeep, and there is a ton of space under the cover for supplies. Honestly, more space than I need.

The RTT sits on my Retrax cover with some slightly modified Front Runner rails.
I can also pop the tent off in about 10 minutes, so I'm not dragging it around every day.

Well, I finally got around to puttin on the softopper. Still some fine tuning but overall pretty happy with the way it turned out. Will update after some highway testing.

Great to see this started - waiting on my new AT4X, and wanting to get a Smart Cap as a starting point for an overlander set up. Anyone have any comments on SmartCaps? Looking at their 'gull wing' kitchen setup as well, and likely a rooftop tent, still thinking through that. Looking forward to seeing pics of the projects

I ordered a SmartCap the same time I ordered my AT4 this past February. The SmartCap was still on backorder when I took the delivery of the truck in May so I canceled it and purchased a Retrax XR tonneau cover and Yakima towers/crossbars. The website still shows it unavailable for the Sierra. They are really nice but seem to be extremely difficult to get. I was recently at the Overland Mountain West Expo and the vendors I talked to confirmed it. So I think it is really a good starting point...if you can get one.
