2023 6.2 AT4X Engine seized

I agree. There are those cases of 6.6 failures. But it seems the 6.2 is really a bit of a problem child. In my opinion, it's the DFM system. My mechanic mind can totally see why and how the failures happen. When I had a 5.3 with the auto stop and the DFM system I did everything I could to over ride those systems.
My friend had a High Country 6.2 with about 10K on it and it dropped a lifter on a cross country trip. He had it towed and took a week to fix it. The mechanic at the dealership told him to get a DFM disabler and he shouldn't have any more issues.
 

So far yes, even before the disabler, I always drove her on L9 to disable the DFM, and always turned the auto start/stop off.
 

I admit I phrased my statement wrong..I should have said I hadn’t heard of any 6.6L gas failures, but obviously there is always going to be a few but not even in the same universe as that shit 6.2L motor.

I know a lot of people that drive Silverado’s, sierras, tahoes, suburban, Yukons, Escalades, etc. Of course they got a loaner and fixed within a week. Compare how many 5.3s and 6.2s are on the road to your 6.6.

In my experience working on the 07-14 5.3, The main thing that caused lifter failures time after time (mostly) is a lack of oil changes. 3k/6 months tops and use high quality synthetic on those engines. When you're out of warranty, oil is cheap. Engine rebuilds are not.

There's a combination of other factors that also lead to the demise of that 5.3 engine to include the stupid net that gets clogged because of dirty oil that the pressure sensor sits on top of.



Having the AFM disable device does help prolong the lifters but isn't a solution like losing your collapsible lifters in a boating accident ...

Those new 6.2's (while it's not all engines), have had many more complaints of sudden seizing / getting a new engine than any other engine I've seen in the many years I've monitored such forums. Something is going on and they're too new for people to do their own work so we won't know for sure for a few more years.

The other part is I can't recall ever seeing someone have the same issue with the new engine they get. So maybe it was just a bad batch? Who knows.

You got it. The only entity we all have to blame here is the EPA. Ford just introduced a "GPF" (gas particulate filter) in their maverick. To be sold starting in 2025? Can't wait for that to hit GM. We're in for a world of hurt once gas gets the diesel treatment in terms of reliability.

GM 6.0's were fairly bullet proof and didn't have any of this tech. 6.6 is showing similar promise but again too new to say for sure. Most guys with a 6.6 gas are either still under warranty and / or capable of doing their own work. So itll be interesting to see how it holds up to the 6.0
 

EPA is truly enemy #1 to the planet and mankind. A corrupt bureaucracy with WAY too much power over people's lives. As the technology keeps getting in the way of normal, efficient mechanical operation, my search for reliable transportation starts to get older and older.
 

I’ll be in my 6.6L gas for 10 years, so trust me when I say I will post ANYTHING that goes wrong with the engine and transmission. I do plan on buying the factory extended warranty about 3 months before the 3/36 expires.

100%. They have ruined everything good and you have people making decisions that don't know jack crap about emissions or anything else.

Yes. It completely disables the DFM system. Some tuners will also disable the Auto Stop system. Then your vehicle will operate normally.
 

So driving in L9 does not completely disable the DFM?
It disables the DFM, but it doesn't allow you to use all 10 speeds. If I was cruising around town I would use L7 (because I had the infamous 8 speed) But when I was highway cruising I would just use Drive. The DFM wasn't as noticeable during highway cruising.
