2022 Sierra AT4X MAX SPEED “limiter”

If you buy trucks with tires rated for over 100mph most will do the 112 top speed.

I had a 2023 AT4 with the 18" wheels and it's too speed was 98mph.

I bought a 2024 AT4 with 20" wheels and all terrain tires. This one is limited to 112 mph. There is also a video on YouTube of someone getting their AT4 to that speed.

I think most 20" wheeled Sierra's with street tires are limited to 112MPH. The 18" off road tire trucks are 98 mph

I’ve spent a lot of time over 100 mph, often reaching or exceeding that speed at least once or twice per day at work, as that was the nature of my work for quite a few years.

My last three work vehicles were all hemi-powered Chargers, and the last two of those were AWD. Truly amazing cars. Rock solid at speed, especially when compared to the Ford Crown Vics, Chevy Camaros, and Ford Mustangs of yesteryear.

I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for thoss Chargers. Great on snow and ice too, with the right tires. Sadly, FCA discontinued the AWD Hemi-powered package a few years back, so I’m in a pursuit-rated Tahoe now. I like the room, but it’s definitely more work to drive at the higher speeds the Chargers managed easily.

The Tahoe LE package is lower than the civilian model, and it’s modified and sprung stiffer to improve handling and reduce body float and roll. It also has bigger brakes and speed-rated tires — so it’s designed to be safe over 130 mph. Even so, it still feels like it wants to float when it’s over 100 mph, and abrupt cross-wind can be a real butt-pucker. I have zero interest in seeing how much more of a butt pucker it might be in a heavier truck with worse ground effects, more suspension travel, smaller brakes, poorer handling, and tires that aren’t rated for the speed.

I noticed the speed limier the other day as I was cruising across alligator alley. No one was around and I always have my radar detector setup when I’m on the highway which is 5 days a week. I looked down and saw that I was going 98 mph. It sure didn’t feel like it and I wasn’t intending on going that fast. I was jamming to Molly Hatchet on the Bluetooth and I guess my good attitude got the best of my lead foot that day. I usually cruise around 80-82 mph on the interstate. Nevertheless, I don’t think GMC should take it upon themselves to limit us.
Now, when Im on my Hayabusa that’s a different story!

Reading this has me thinking about my CBR 900RR from over 20 years ago. I pushed 150 on the highway one evening when it was quiet. Now I don't go over 80. It's funny how things change, I'm officially an old man.

Yup. I did similarly stupid stuff in my teens when I had a Yamaha RD400. It wouldn’t do 150 mph, but it was very light, had crappy tires, and could do well over 100 mph. I’d lie on the tank and wind the bike out for all it could do… because I was an idiot.

If we’re fortunate enough to survive the stupidity of our youth, most of us eventually wise up. That’s not true of all of us, of course. I’ve met an amazing number of incredibly stupid adults of all ages. I guess that’s why there are governors on newer trucks (and irritating nanny-features on Jeeps.) The nanny features try to save us from ourselves, but the governors theoretically help protect the innocent motoring public from the dummies driving beyond their abilities and the design limitations of their vehicles.)

Very true. I've often wondered how I survived while others weren't so lucky. I think it just comes down to luck.

What scares me now is my son. I hope he doesn't do the stuff I did. He's 6 and this past weekend he was at my parents and found my father's dolly for moving heavy items. My old man caught him tying it to his cousins bike. He had to chain it to a piling to keep it away from him. I asked him about it, he said he wanted to do something dangerous. Haha I'm screwed.

I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time. ☺️ I can look back at my life and say that more times than I can count. It seems like most of us make it, in spite of ourselves.

My decisions gradually got better, I think, but then you get old and your brain starts turning to oatmeal… it seems like there’s a twenty year sweet spot between, say, 35 and 55 for most of us. After that the thoughtful decisions may be better, but the brain speed and reaction times are not.

My boys have survived the scariest years, thank God. I suspect your son will too.

I think we hijacked the thread but I’m 60 yrs old and still go fast. I attend track days on my GSX-R 750 and I’ve been 170+ on my Hayabusa. All in a controlled environment. I’ve been riding and racing motorcycles for 50 years. The adrenaline rush never goes away and the technology and gear is always improving.

Yeah my bike won't go over 112 mph. Stupid Harley!

Honestly, though, with just a small headlight fairing and no other wind protection, that was enough for me.

Haha! I have one of those too for crushing around with my better half.
