1500 XXL factory replacement fuel tank.

It came from the factory with it. Not sure if it was part of a package or not. I believe Ford has a 26 gallon tank in most. But they also offer the 36g.

Dodge RAM 1500 is similar to ford.. comes with 26 gallon tank but you can get a 35 gallon factory tank as well...

why is GMC/Chev not keeping up

Fuel tanks over 25 gallons are required by federal regulation to be pressure tested to 150% max internal pressure. Highly likely it’s cheaper to mfr the smaller tanks, profit, and enough fuel for the 95%.

Ford and Ram also focus a lot more on catering to fleet vehicle sales than GM from what I’ve noticed. The 1/2 ton to 2 ton line up is a lot larger than GM for commercial application.

GM updates their trucks and especially the HDs LAST out of every vehicle they manufacture. Gm finally added Adaptive cruise control to the HD models after a decade since introduction into their cars and SUVs.

Ford makes a 36 gallon gasoline tank for their F150s, as recently as 2022. So unless there’s some brand new DOT rules, the last statement is incorrect.

Nobody aftermarket and yes that’s correct. Unless the mfr makes a larger tank, the aftermarket companies for gasoline tanks can’t recover the cost to meet federal regulations. Diesel fuel is 119 gallons max or you are required to have a CDL with tanker endorsement and/or HAZMAT by federal regulations.
