Wiring up LED Mounted back up lights.

Saw it on a vehicle last week and it looked great, I want it. Ordered and having the dealer install since its really a two person job; $165 for installation plus 20% off for Jan promotion. The dealer will probably install this when the GMC dashcam (with dealer install) is also delivered which may take a month or so.

anyone tried these guys yet?
Those are pretty slick, but about $200 too much, jeez they are proud of those things.

I went for an OPT7 one.

The OPT7 60'' Redline Parlux Triple Row LED Tailgate Light Bar to be exact.

At 101$ (EUR 140 shipped), it is a fraction of the cost of the Putco one so I hope they are an ok product. Should be easy to install (I bought the trailer 7-pin harness add-on though I have to add a T tap to enable the back up light).

From the videos I've seen, it looks cool!

Awesome!

Purchased from GMC Accessories, Putco installs flawlessly into OEM wiring, apparently no mods or taps etc. on my 2500HD. Then again its dealer installed and guess it has GMC dealer warranty; sure cost a few bucks more and I also paid for the install, but its ok.

That would be correct.

Tap into the reverse light circuit behind the tail light. Use the reverse light circuit to control a relay. Power the relay from the 7way 12+ wire (always hot).
Is there a way to tap into the reverse light circuit in the cab? I want to tap into it in the cab because I’m going to wire some backup lights to a relay but have a SPDT switch as the trigger so I can have them off, on, or on when in reverse. Can you tell me the specific wire I can use? I checked the schematics and I THINK it’s the green and white wire but any more specific guidance would be appreciated.

If I am not mistaken, if you wire it up so you can turn it on or off, even when not in reverse, it will backfeed into your system. I have thought about it several times and people keep warning me about it so I have stayed clear of trying it. If you do, and it works let us know.

I would double tap your switched power directly to terminal #87. I would also use a SPST switch.

You are only using the "green and white" to energize the low current coil of the relay #86. You will have problems if you use the "green and white" wire to power your additional lighting...

*** I HAVE NO IDEA IF THE "green and white" WIRE IS THE CORRECT WIRE! ***

New to the Forum. I may have missed this somewhere but I'm looking at the diagram on the relay, shouldn't #86 be to ground and #85 is the signal source from your backup lights. Just checking before I do this

Welcome.

It will not matter. 86 and 85 is just the 12v coil. Will work how ever you want to wire it.

Here is a photo I stole from Amazon. #86 is standard 12v+. But it won't matter, if you're the only one touching it.

Me, diagnosing a problem, I would use a test light on #86 to see if there was 12v+ signal power.

Thanks
Was able to hook up the extra backup lights and so for no codes. Just hooked the extra lights up to my reverse lights no switch inside. Oh I guess I should have said it was on a 2024 GMC 2500HD AT4X

I have mine independent of reverse lights so I can have them on when I’m driving in heavy fog in winter to warn someone behind me.
