Well, I just passed the 50k mark. 50, 6XX actually. Yesterday I was backing into a parking spot at the grocery store when a message popped up saying "Service Transmission". It was shifting fine and acting normally, so I called the dealership (they were still open) and asked if that's just a service reminder notification or indicating something else? The kid didn't know (he admitted as such which I respect). We agreed to keep an eye on it the rest of the weekend. Good.
Drove to another destination maybe 15 miles away or so and parked it. Again, zero symptoms of any issues. Transmission temp was locked in at 145F. I haven't installed a bypass so either the prior owner did or the trans stat is stuck open...either way, I'm leaving it as is as it runs consistently in that 145-160F range, summer and winter. Great.
I went to leave, and the message on the dash changed from "Service Transmission" to "Service Transmission Now. Unable to Shift Soon". Not great.
I'll be calling first thing tomorrow AM to see when I can get it in, and until then I'm not risking anything by driving it. I've installed a PPE Transmission Pan which holds 2 extra quarts of the Amsoil ULV fluid I put in there when I installed it last fall. There are no leaks and everything looks clean as a whistle. In fact, I brought it into the dealership about a month ago or so as it felt like it was shifting oddly. Not necessarily hard shifts but not nearly as smooth as they were when I got the truck with 27k miles on it. Also, if I went to pass someone or get onto the freeway, it would shift, but then once I was up to speed it would take up to 5-10 seconds for it to finally settle into the cruising gear, which I didn't feel is right. Still does that. They didn't find anything wrong with it, but did mention it had an update for the computer, so I told them to go ahead and do that. After they updated things, it shifted noticeably better so I thought perhaps the "learning" the computer had needed to be reset. I don't drive it a ton in the summer beyond a few miles into town and back. Maybe 5k miles over a summer? Come winter, I'm an avid ice fisherman and haul my 5,500lb Ice Castle 6 hours north and can spend a week on the ice then haul it back home. I rack up the miles in the winter. So I thought perhaps the learning needed resetting.
Now with these two errors, I'm not sure what to think. Still under GM powertrain warranty and I have an extended warranty as well. Y'all think this is the dreaded valve body issue? I almost hope it is so that I can replace it with the NextGen version (which GM had previously authorized some GM dealerships to source for warranty repairs). What do you all think?
