Hey y’all. Hope everyone is living their best lives out there and the GMC recall demons are leaving you alone.
As a longevity/durability move, I will be replacing the factory transmission fluid with the best that Amsoil offers, and also replacing the filter. 2019 Sierra with the 6.2L V8. 70k miles.
I’m curious if anyone is running any of the PPE covers, including the deep pan and diff cover. I’m also curious if it’s a good idea to add the bypass valve.
I don’t do much towing, but I did haul a Camry on a trailer from Montana to Texas. Everything performed as expected, and the highest trans temps we saw going up and down the mountains was ~ 210-220, although most of the time it was around 200 and below. This was in August.
Ever since then though, I’ve noticed that my (unloaded) trans temps are creeping up from 150-160 to 170-185 under normal driving conditions. Truck is babied most of the time. My guess is that the factory fluid is starting to break down.
So I’m going to suck it up and have the fluid and filter changed and figured I should install a deeper pan and possibly the bypass valve.
I’ll be doing the transfer case and diffs as well, also using Amsoil’s finest. So I may replace the covers on the diffs.
Anyone with experience with these upgrades? Is there another brand I should be looking at as well? I see cheaper copies on eBay, but I don’t want something that’s gonna be easily damaged or out of spec.
Truck is mostly stock except for an updated panel filter, some modifications I did to the factory airbox system (I drilled 3/8” and 1/4” holes in the box and intake tube), and I recently added a Banks Pedal Monster.
I’m bigger into durability than adding performance, since it’s my work vehicle. The stuff I have done is just me messing around to make the truck a bit more fun to drive.
Any advice is appreciated!
