OnStar, is it worth it?

Mine expired last summer. My GPS suddenly had issues. When I contacted them they offered me a really good rate, and included on board wifi. My only complaint about them was when I hit the deer on a dark highway last October, and my curtain bags deployed. I stay pretty calm during bad situations, and I was just trying to get to the far shoulder off of the highway, when OnStar killed my truck. I was just short of where I wanted to be, and when they contacted me I asked them to reactivate my truck so I could pull further off of the shoulder. They complied, and notified the state police of the accident, and my pinpoint location.

I had to pay for 3 years on my 2023. I’m a year in and have not used it once. I won’t use it, and won’t renew it . I got an email one time that said I had 4 flat tires while the truck was parked in the garage, and not to drive it.
I would gladly trade all the worthless tech for some good paint.

Only convenience I like is unlock and auto start feature. I dislike any corporation knowing anything about my truck and whereabouts etc. l. As I get older I enjoy the luxury of technology etc with its drawbacks.

My 3 month trial was up this weekend. The cost was going to be 29.99/month for the preferred plan (Safety & Security with App Access). I had no interest in paying that much. I called to cancel yesterday and after talking with an onstar rep - they offered a lower rate. I rejected that and an even lower rated was offered. Than I asked if I paid for 1 year what the price would be. I got the preferred plan for $17.50/month ($210/year). To me, I thought I'd use it for another year - mostly to keep access to in truck app's and maps.

Are you paying $15 a month to ATT as well for data? Best I could get out of them was the $29.99 a month that includes the ATT data plan. A bit infuriating that the plans are so confusing.

Just use your phones data plan…by hot-spotting your phone to your truck you will now have data for your truck’s infotainment…Now all your functions will come back…navigation, google voice..everything.

Whenever my free remote apps run out, I pay for that so I can start my vehicles from my phone. Other than that and the WIFI when needed, OnStar's other services are pretty much useless to me.

I had a 2003 Tahoe. During the free trial I tried contacting them to report a violent dangerous driver. Call wouldn't go through. They have never gotten a dime from me.

I had mixed success with doing that. I couldn't get offline maps, trafic or speed limit signs to work, and the truck wasnt always able to find my hotspot. At the time I was on a Verizon iPhone. I've since moved over to an ATT Samsung which may prove more compatible. I'll try again when my subscription expires.

Paying ATT - Don't plan to - I'll use my phone and connect it to the truck. I agree trying to figure the plans is not easy.
