OIL CHANGE!

What’s up fellas, just got a brand new 2026 Sierra 1500 AT4x 3.0 duramax. I changed the oil at 5K miles. I’m at 8500 miles now and only have 15% oil life. Gm says I only need to change the oil every 7k miles. Why am I burning oil so fast?? I put obil 1 0w-20

Sounds like you didn’t reset the oil life monitor when you changed it. I’m not 100% on how it works but am pretty sure the oil life monitor calculates based on hours / rpms / mileage, it’s not like it is sampling oil quality or anything.

That sounds right. If you did not reset the oil monitor manually that would add up. I changed mine to 5,000 interval as I change my HD oil at 5k miles but the OEM is 7.5k. There are options in the menus to change to other time or distance intervals. I changed mine to the 5k interval and it also displays that life monitor on the phone app. I last changed my oil at 35,000 and the monitor set to the 5k interval displays correctly.
