NEED YOUR OPINION

The one reason I specifically DID NOT want the power retracting steps is that having the stationary steps gives the truck a measure of protection against knuckleheads opening their door into my truck when parked. They stick out ever so slightly, maybe about 2", so that it will hit my steps before hitting the sheet metal/paint. I got the exact OEM ones that come on the midnight edition Chevy 2500 so I think they're pretty cool looking too.
I agree, I like the fixed Steps as well. It also helps protect the lower cab and body from rock or other things kicked up on the paint. I drive a lot off road on job sites for many miles, so they have worked great for me.
I also like the look as well.

Did you paint your exhaust pipe or is that a tip?

Go Rhino tip GRT35514B, under $70 on Amazon but the paint they used on it is garbage, starting peeling off the first time I towed with the truck. Ended up stripping the paint off it and scuffed the whole tip with 60 grit wheel and painted with rust oleum 248903 high heat flat black ceramic coating (Home Depot has it). When properly cured in the oven, like I did, I don't think it will ever come off. If I did it over again I'd just buy the GRT35514 (polished stainless one) and save myself the trouble of having to strip the paint off.

I was in your same situation, always had HD trucks and the big diesel. Carried heavy equipment and towed heavy. No longer the case, now I only tow a landscape type trailer occasionally. I can bring my riding mower in for repair, go to the dump, move big items, but all only occasionally. I got the 6.2 because I can't stand being underpowered when I merge onto the freeway or passing. I got the standard bed because I like a toolbox full of tools and I have a headache rack and drop in rear bar for long lumber and ladders. I would never buy that baby diesel; if I towed a lot, or heavy, I would go HD, if I wanted good gas mileage I drive a car. Lots of anecdotal rantings about the 6.2 here, but overall I believe the odds are overwhelming that you will be problem free. I went with the 18" rims, rated for more weight and a smoother ride.
Cool color, my brother has a Tacoma in a very similar color I think Toyota calls it Desert Tan. Similar to Thunderstorm gray in it has no or extremely fine metal flake...t-storm actually does have flake but it almost looks like it doesn't.
