Service manager where I bought my truck said anything past the cats will not void a warranty unless it’s proven the changes caused the warranty issue to begin with which a muffler swap won’t mess anything up he said. He also told me they’re not one of those dealers who wants to mess with a customers about add ons and warranty related stuff anyway. Some dealers are petty about that kind of thing though and it does happen.
Yeah, that makes sense and is fair.
I didn't buy the truck here in MT where I live, bought it in Nebraska where I was stranded for 4 weeks with my 2020 AT4 and it's service emissions systems problem they never could fix. So the GM dealership here, that changed ownership a few years ago (I used to know the previous owner well enough and he always treated me well so no goofy stuff was likely), the new ownership is a group that owns a whole bunch of dealerships around the state (and I think maybe even out of state too), heck they own EVERY dealership here in town except for Ford and Honda, this group owns GM, Dodge and Toyota, and they are not nearly as good to work with. I have heard of them pulling funny business on warranty issues for other people already, so don't want to use the local GM dealership here if I don't have to.
That being said, IDK why a dealership and their shop would want to piss off a customer or turn away business. If they can get something accepted by GM as warranty work, they will get paid by GM. If they get repair work where they flagged it to get denied by GM, it will likely piss the customer off and the customer may go elsewhere for future business. I think dealerships mostly don't care anymore much though, and with these new trucks there is plenty of electronic or similar stuff you almost have to use a GM dealership to get fixed. They know they kind of have you boxed in.
