Hey all - I have a 2026 Sierra 2500HD AT4 with the factory power steps and folding/extending tow mirrors. We live in NY where they love to dump truck loads of salt on the roads from the 1st hint of winter until the spring flowers are blooming. What type of maintenance should I do to these parts to keep them from rusting and corroding to death?

thanks,
john

Hey John,
I have a 2025 AT4 2500HD that I’ve had for 1-1/2 years. I live in VA and even though I sure it’s worse in NY, here they coat the roads with the liquid salt when there’s even a hint of a snow flake. A few times there’s so much that my black truck looked white. I always wash it off as soon as I can with the steps folded down and the mirrors extended. I have put a drop or two of oil on the step joints and always wipe the mirrors down after with some wax spray. So far they still work like new. Not sure if this helps but hoping it does.

best thing you can do for moving parts is Fresh Water Rinse as often as possible, find some spray lube and apply it to the pivot points after said fresh water rinse. Stay on top of it or it could get expensive down the road. Thank God salt is not needed on the roads along the coastal states on the Gulf of America!
