Locking Fuel cap or door?

It is magnetic but pretty useless, does not stick, but slides down the polished body. Truck filler cap door is plastic and my Diamondback HD tonneau cover is aluminium. :(
That is so wrong and I would return it as well!
I was extremely cautious with mine when first testing but it holds solid.
I think I will adhere a couple pads just so it doesn't actually touch the finish

You can come up with something like I did in the 1500. Remove the painted half of the fuel door and put a machine screw, nut and washer in/on the inner half of the door...

The 1500's don't even have a fill cap. So I had to come up with something, or at my age I'd forget it in my pocket or on top of the crossover toolbox.

Is the HD similar enough we could do that or do I have to use some kind of JB weld?
I think that's a great idea and you don't risk the finish at all!!!

Huh, I just noticed the sticker gm wastes money on, to tell us FULL PENETRATION is best! 😁

And didn't even use words...

Thanks but the DMAXSTORE Billet cap was way too heavy to stick to a single bolt.

Don't get me started about age! We may be getting older, however our mental and physical acuity is still up there! (y)

Yes but where you can install a bolt you can install a plate, which is the direction I am thinking.

As stated in my responses, the DMAX is a non-tethered magnetic solid billet cap; it wont stick to the plastic cover and I would not stick it the truck body, in any case it would slide down, given its heavy weight. Without a thether, I'd likely leave it at the pump or on the tonneau cover, hence returned mine immediately. I have since given up on the idea of a lockable tethered diesel fuel cap. Its a shame GMC did not offer an electric/switch operated fuel flap cover like we have in most new vehicles, perhaps not trucks.

This a resurrected old post, but something to consider. If you lock the fuel cap, sometimes a crook will then just punch a hole in the tank and drain it. I rather lose the fuel than have a hole in the tank. I would say that in years past not much of an issue, but now people are willing to lay under there and take the time to saw off catalytic converters on gassers.
