Hello all! I just signed the paperwork and am picking up my new AT4X Duramax tomorrow. My goal was to find a one truck solution for everything I do.
This will be primarily used as my work truck for land surveying, but we also camp, bike, “overland”, travel, go out on the town, etc. I currently have 4 different vehicles to do these tasks. I’m trying to get rid of at least three of them!
I have been a Toyota guy for a while. My last work truck was a Lexus GX460 with the second and third rows removed for all my survey equipment. I have a 17 Land Cruiser fully outfitted for off road travel, including running water, kitchen, and a pop top camper for sleeping(cut the roof off for this). It is the perfect truck for one person, a little snug for two, and downright cramped for me, my wife, and son when we travel. It also only gets about 10 mpg on the highway these days. We won’t even talk about gvwr
. I also have a 74 Land Cruiser FJ40 for fun on tighter trails and some general cruising around town, and an 87 Land Cruiser FJ60 that is all original and a street very light trail cruiser only.
My plan is to have this replace all of them! And keep us all extremely comfortable, with very reasonable gas mileage, and all the power I should ever need!
I’m very interested in looking at other’s overland builds. I’m currently considering a GFC pro or max camper. It should be light enough to leave in all the time and the camper shell portion should work great for all the survey gear. Interested to see how other have sealed up the bed to keep dust out. I figure that’s the first place to start.
Looking forward to learning a few things here!
Cheers!
Jeff
