Intercooler pipe/hose failure

Well, new update! The dealership said they had time to work on it today rather than Thursday and what they found was the DPF was so plugged up they need to change the whole back half of the exhaust system and one sensor was bad. Anyone ever hear of GM changing the whole back half of the exhaust system for this reason? I called the dealership that it was towed into and they aren't believing it. They claim it should clean up after 2 or 3 forced Regens. Really? Then why the f*×k didn't you do that? 😡

Are you running a banks or equivalent Regen monitor? Have you been allowing your truck to fully Regen every time it goes into Regen?

The dpf filter typically gets gunked up like this and reaches a point where no Regen can help over a longer period of time. If you idle your truck and/or when you turn off your truck during a Regen and don't allow it to Regen completely over a number of Regen cycles. Could be 10 could be 50 cycles could be 100 and so on. No telling. Depending on how you drive your truck, quality of fuel, etc etc all eventually play factor into it.

Forced regens sometimes do work but not always. With the stupid emissions stuff, typically, the first thing a dealer will always do is a forced Regen as that does solve problems more often than not. To do 2-3 forced manual regens might be too much and you probably have bigger problems.. i.e your exhaust and a sensor needing replacement.

I think what you're running into is a very clueless service advisor with your initial dealer. Those service advisors are about as knowledgeable in vehicles as an AutoZone associate.

I believe I am buying good fuel as my mileage is always up there. I never idle my truck other than a short warm up. This is my 3rd diesel truck so I have been aware of these issues for over 20 years. I am considering buying a monitor as I don't think I always know when it's doing a regen. I find that the majority of service advisors and even service managers are clueless

Definitely a good idea to get one. I am able to plan my trips out around the Regen. I hate being close to home and having to stay on the freeway for another 20-30 miles just for the purpose of a Regen. I try to drive my gas suburban if I'm driving short distance around town and drive my truck when I have to go out for longer.

I was in the dealership today getting the oil changed in my loaner that they gave me to drive. I asked the service manager how does the tech know that my DPF is plugged, from the soot load % on his laptop? He said yes. So I said apparently the other dealership didn't do a regen like they claimed! You can't trust any dealerships nowadays!

They're crooks. Good mechanics especially diesel mechanics are very hard to come by.

Unless you're under warranty, I tell everyone all the time - learn how to wrench. It's not rocket science. I've been doing all my own work since 2019 and saved close to 20k if not more on work alone since then.

I do have one rule. I don't F*** with tranny's. Straight to a shop to include tranny fluid changes (or gender neutral shift juice if we want to be correct here).

Good rule to follow in the social world too 🤣.

Nope, it's tranny's, rearends, petcocks, master and slave cylinders.

I do my own wrenching, but this truck is under warranty so all I do is servicing type work and mods, not repairs.

Well I did a thing the other day!

Well since installing the Edge Insight monitor, I've had two passive regens occur. The first at 400 miles, and the second at 370 miles. Both times when it got down to between 40% - 50% soot load, the check engine light came on and it was a P0421 code both times. Apparently I either have an exhaust leak, a faulty catalytic converter, or another bad sensor. If I hadn't purchased that expensive extended warranty I'd delete this truck tomorrow! Why can't they build a diesel truck nowadays that you can safely use as a daily driver and not have to worry about these effing emissions and regens!

How many miles on the truck?

The Regen timing seems normal. My most recent Regen was at 403. Period to that I've been hovering at around 350.

If you haven't already, replace your MAF sensors. And this may be the result of not monitoring your Regens and likely turning your truck off mid Regen, not allowing it to fully Regen, etc. Over a period of many thousands of miles.

You won't even need an extended warranty for emission stuff, I think emission stuff warranty is 8 years or something like 120k miles.
