How loud is your Duramax?

I’ve been putting in the AC Delco Diesel fuel additive recently (fuel conditioner manual recommends) and it’s been quieting down the injectors completely, night and day difference. I got an injector relearn when I got my NOx sensor replaced which fixed the issue before but came back after about 1K miles. Quieting the injectors down for $20 per fill up kind of sucks though.

Have a 24’ AT4X and it’s pretty loud at idle and initial acceleration from a stop 100% knows it’s a diesel except at cruising speed where it’s almost silent. Diesel Rattle and sounds like sucking air (turbo spin up?). Louder than test drive vehicle, 5x louder than Diesel X5 - actually annoying to me.

I'm surprised, My 2024 2500HD AT4X 6.6L Duramax is pretty quiet for a large diesel; I hardly notice the engine in the cab. I always loved diesels. My Mercedes 3.0 V6 diesel is very quiet. I know my 2023 John Deer X758 with 24hp 993cc diesel engine makes its presence known; I wear noise reducing head gear while operating it :)

I have the 3.0l and can hear the diesel when my windows are down, but its hardly noticeable when windows are up. I love the sound of the diesel, so I don't mind the mild sound of it at all.

You might try the Hotshots EDT. It will quiet the diesel down a little.

Thanks. I will try that today and in my JD at spring time.

I have the 2023 3.0L TurboDeisel and it is quiet most of the time. I run Archoil in it to increase cetane. It has a weird sound mostly when cold but sometimes not, sounds like the skid plate under the truck is vibrating. Happens at 1800-2200 rpm only.

Have a turbo diesel X5 and you don’t even know it’s diesel except the torque will pull a house of its foundation - only needs DEF every 10K miles.

I’ve been around diesels more whole life (ranch life - parents owned a trucking company) - so the typical diesel isn’t an issue - at initial acceleration its diesel rail I call “ rattle”, the addition of whoosh of air sucking sound and quick shift to 2nd drags down rpm a bit making a whine. Seems everyone has a different experience with same vehicle same LZO…..if accelerator in park - super quiet - and above 30mph, even heavy acceleration - super quiet.
