high mileage AT4 5.3 vs 6.2

looking at a well optioned 2019 AT4 with 5.3. it currently has 113k miles. My only thing holding me up is getting the 5.3 w/ 8 speed transmission and not getting the 6.2 with the 10 spd. price is 30.5K . my question is at this mileage is a 5.3 a worse option then a 6.2 if care was the same? people seem to really favor the 6.2 heavlily

Do you have any history on it? Like has it had lifters replaces?

no lifters, just got all brand new injectors though.

from running the carfax through chatgpt it says it has an excellent history, 23 records, oil changes at the same place. it is getting new front and rear brakes as well during the reconditioning. I am looking to buy from the local GM dealership.

Stay away is my advise to you. No problems now but you're going to start having issues very soon. If not mechanical, the electrical ones. Then it'll be mechanical. 30 grand for a legitimate pile of junk is what it is.

If you want a reliable GM truck, you should be looking at a gas 2500. Or if you're set on the half tons - Toyota Tundra V8 only or a Nissan titan / titan xd.

I think I am the only one on the forums here with a 2011 5.3 1500 style (suburban) at 275k miles and from personal experience - trannies go out starting at 150-160k. Lifters on the engine bare minimum also fail around the same mileage. I'm on my second engine and just rebuilt this one two years ago at 100k miles.

The newer the GM is the more it'll cost you to fix and replace.

The 2500s - up until 2020, were running a bulletproof 6.0 gas with no cylinder deactivation. They are fairly cheap to fix and easy to work on with hundreds of how tos online. 2020 and on, engine no major issues. Transmission is the 10 speed which isn't known for reliability and very expensive to fix.

Tundra V8 - speaks for itself. Holds value really well.

Nissan titan - reliable, but the value doesn't hold too well so you can find low mileage 22-24's for fairly cheap. Also no cylinder deactivation.

Ford also makes pretty good gas 3/4+. The 7.3 gas and the older 6.2 gas are both really good.

I’m mostly looking at these years to get me out of my suv, it’s a German suv with 120k miles I would rather take on the issues of a domestic truck then a 2013 sports suv. It was 1800 to replace the thermostat lol so I think the at4 would be cheaper, but I’m looking to stay around 30k

Yeah German made is not known for being cheap and reliable anymore. But the newer 1500 GM platform isn't any better.

At your price range - you should be able to find a newer titan with far less miles that's loaded. I would try and get the refresh 2020+.
