Back in 2021, I bought a new 1500 AT4 Duramax and loved it. Even with the long crank no start, I thought it was a great truck.
I decided to retire in 2023 at the ripe age of 52 and the GMC had to go in order to keep payments low until my pension kicked in. Turns out my pension started soon after and I could have kept the truck.
Fast forward to today, I still missed the truck and I would casually browse Carvana and CarMax to check on 1500/2500 AT4s but I felt like prices were still too high.
I saw a ‘23 Dessert Sand 1500 AT4 D’Max two weeks ago and the price seemed good. I traded my almost paid off ‘24 Ram 2500 CC 4x4 for it.
The Ram was much more capable but I don’t think the AT4 won’t be able to fulfill my needs. Our camper is within the capabilities and payload. What we gained is a beautiful interior full of creature comforts and luxury.
Love the grunt from the 3.0.
The new AT4 isn’t perfect cosmetically but the imperfections are negligible. I’m going to buff out a long clear coat scratch that is hard to see but I know it’s there. What bothers me the most is the dreaded and common frame rust.
I already have the tools to prep the frame surface for rust conversion and paint. Should be a good project.
I did notice that it came with new BFGs K02 295/60R20s. Awesome tires! I want to say the previous owner did not calibrate the speedometer for the new 34” tires. I did a GPS speed test and it showed the truck going 1 MPH slower than indicated on the dash. What gives? I thought it would be going faster than indicated.
Oh well, wheel wells look good with 34”. MPGs do seem to be affected too much.
Long intro, sorry! I’m retired, I got plenty of time to do things like writing long intros.
