I’ve inherited a 1996 F150 and I’ll be going to pick it up next weekend. The thing is immaculate and I’m pumped to get it!
It’s going to be the heaviest thing I’ve ever towed with a 1500 truck and I’m slightly worried! Going to be a 500 mile journey.
Empty trailer weight is 3300lb, the F150 is probably around 4500lb. I always like to err on the side of caution so I’ll round up to 8000lb for the total pulled load.
My max tongue weight is 890lb, 8900lb max trailer weight. Max payload of 1432lb.
Not worried about exceeding my payload, I’m not that fat. But the combined trailer and tongue weight is giving me the cause for concern. I’m going to have to be real careful on getting the balance correct!
Is there anything I can do to get some weight out of the truck? Taking the tailgate off? Would that even make much of a difference?
Or am I better off draining the F150 of fuel and oil to save some weight? At 6lb a gallon, might be worth it
