I was curious to how GM was calculating the displayed fuel range. The math I came up with below was accurate for my 2023 HD DIESEL.
25mile avg: 25/mpg= A gallons
50mile avg: 50/mpg= B gallons
400mile avg: 400/mpg= C gallons
(25+50+400)/(A+B+C)= Range mpg
Range mpg x fuel tank gallons= Range or distance to empty
Quicker equation-
X=25mile mpg
Y=50mile mpg
A=400mile mpg
(0.052X)+(0.105Y)+(0.842Z)=Range mpg
Range mpg x fuel tank gal= Range
If you have a S&B, Titan, or auxiliary fuel tank, like I have a S&B 62 gal. The equation could give you a close fuel range to what the truck would say.
