GM 6.2L oil consumption 2021-2025 AT4 GMC and equal parts in Chevy

I would like to gather information on how many members have a 2021-2024 with 6.2L that have dealt with or currently dealing with a truck that is consuming oil prior to 85k miles.
If you would in your response list the folllowing information.

1) what year is your truck
2)how many miles are on the truck
3)how much oil in 2k miles
4) are you currently involved in GM’s oil consumption test
5) has you engine been rebuilt or repaired and is it using oil again.

These 5 answers are all that are needed.

Hello new member here I take care of fleet of trucks for a FedEx delivery contractor I have a 2021 express using 2 quarts every 500 miles what kills me is it don't even smoke I'm using good oil too

I was to believe the express van had the 6.0/6.6g or the 4.3 v-6, depending on the year.

2022, purchased new from the local GMC dealer

2)how many miles are on the truck
Complete engine change at 51000, Currently has 56000

3)how much oil in 2k miles
Complete Engine replacement at 51000 in December 2024 and this week the "Check engine oil level" warning came on (oil monitor shows 41% remaining oil life). This is just 5000 miles on complete new engine.

4) are you currently involved in GM’s oil consumption test
I began the oil consumption test on the original engine at 36000 miles and had to battle the dealership to do something. The last half dozen oil consumption checks just prior to engine replacement, it was consuming a quart and half or more every 1000 miles. The last check prior to engine change it consumed 2 quarts in 1000 miles. Because the new engine is using oil, again, I am in a oil consumption test program.

5) has you engine been rebuilt or repaired and is it using oil again. Complete engine replacement at 51000 miles. Engine tear down shows heavy carbon build in combustion chambers and top of pistons. #5, #6, and #8 cylinders were scored. #6 was "beyond repair" according to the dealership.

2022 At4 just hit 40,000 and it’s using the quart or better every couple thousand. Did the first consumption test but having to take it to the dealer every thousand miles isn’t that easy of a task for me and they want to give the run around about a quart every two thousand miles being normal BS. So I’ve just been checking it religiously and adding when needed. I have an 03 Sierra with 170,000 on it and it doesn’t use any through an oil change interval. Very frustrating

Mine is a 2021 sierra 1500 AT4 6.2L with 31,000 miles. I’m going through the oil consumption test at the GMC dealership. I started getting the low engine oil at 25,000 miles. I love my truck but it sucks to have this engine issue. Does this issue get better as the engine gets more mileage?

Mine is a 2021 sierra 1500 AT4 6.2L with 31,000 miles. I’m going through the oil consumption test at the GMC dealership. I started getting the low engine oil at 25,000 miles. I love my truck but it sucks to have this engine issue. Does this issue get better as the engine gets more mileage?

My gray beard says no. Maybe the first 1000 or so miles, as rings wore/broke-in into the cylinders, oil consumption would go down. Other than that, oil use never goes down, just up.

With today's light oils and ***rings that you don't need a ring compressor to install***, I'm surprised we don't all have oil consumption.

I have a 22 1/2 1500 AT4 with the 6.2 and 51,000 miles. No issues at all, so far. I change the oil per the indicator message so at about 4k miles I have been finding it right at 1 qt low. When the truck was new, the usage was about the same. I have owned since new, so everything original. Not part of any study as I feel this is acceptable, even though my 5.3s never used any. Hopefully this helps.

Last oil change was about 4000 miles ago and just had the low oil message come on, never seen this before. Found it was 2 it's low.

3. It varies, but usually 2 quarts in 2500 miles
4. Completed consumption test
5. Dealer is telling me they are ready to replace engine, but GM wants the original removed and torn apart before approval is given.

- 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 6.2L
- 35,000 miles
- ~1QT Oil Burned every 2,000 Miles
- I go in every 1,000 miles to get my oil consumption report
- I have the same stock Engine no modifications, it has been upgraded to 0w-40 oil after recall

Does anyone have a fix for this?
