Had engine replaced under L87 recall by Classic GMC in Houston back in Dec 2025 at 55k miles. Now July 2026, the water pump seems to have gone out - the piece where the belt drives the pulley has cracked and separated from the rest of the housing. Sound went from a low “is that a knock” to metal on metal grinding pretty quick (with a few miles). Current mileage is 63k.
No sign on the engine replacement invoice of getting a new water pump, but there are new gaskets shown. So looks like they reused the old pump.
I’m out of the 60k powertrain. Engine has the recall warranty, but what about the water pump that they swapped over? Any chance of this getting covered?
