Engine is toast (2025 sierra 1500 at4 3.0L)

Welp… same boat here with thrust bearing failure. Truck was purchased new in July 2025 and I’ve only put 8700 miles on it. Dropped it off yesterday in reduced acceleration limp mode, and today I was informed they’re going to do a full engine replacement.

I’m curious.. has anyone just received a new truck? according to Colorado lemon law, if the truck stays in the shop for 24 business days, I’ll be eligible to pursue a lemon law claim.
I’m not necessarily trying to do that… but curious to hear if anyone has gone down that road.
This doesn't give me a warm feeling! I bought mine July 15th of 2025, and am just about to hit 7K miles.

No kidding.

It’s funny.. the guy handling my service appointments has the same engine in his truck, and he said the exact same thing. He also verbally acknowledged that they have been made aware that there was a bad batch of 3.0 engines.

As per this thread, and out of curiosity, I’ve asked him to send me the build date of my truck.

FYI- In the small amount of research I’ve done, I’ve found YouTube videos, and even podcasts, entirely dedicated to this exact failure in the 3.0 Duramax.

Fortunately, it does sound like they have fixed the problem in the new engines. So after a replacement, I should be good to go.

I still don’t like the way it feels. It’s supposed to be my ridiculously awesome brand new truck. Not my brand new truck with a replacement engine. Sheeeeeeeiiit son!

I think the build date of the engine is more important than the build date of the truck, at least based on what Demonworks said in his video. My truck was built in April of 2025. I haven't gone to the lengths of getting to the QR code on the motor to find that build date. If it goes, it goes.

I went this route as there were other issues with the truck. My truck has been in the shop for a total of 107 days since being bought at the end of July. Under NC lemon law, if the vehicle is out for at least 20 cumulative business days, it qualifies as a lemon.

GM approved a buyback (no lawyer involved), I sent all my documents needed to them last night and now just waiting on them for your review and ultimately a final offer.

I am planning on updating this post once everything went final. My build date was 6/25 and attached is the photo of this.

Same, I bought mine May 25th 2025.... I am about to hit 8K miles very soon..... Can these be checked for the issue prior to it failing?
Possible pulling the stick every morning in bright light, looking for glitter.

Yes you can check for excessive movement at the torque converter (there are posts on how to do that procedurer) and or do an oil analysis to check for excessive wear metals.
