What are you using to clean windshields these days?!?!? Our new (1600 mile) '25 GMC stays in the garage. Today, we used it to run errands. I noticed the windshield was kind of hazy. Annoying, but not bad enough to stop and clean right now. That was probably a great idea!

Once we got home, I set to work to do just that, and it's being a massive fail. I have cleaned vehicle windows for car shows, so have an idea what I'm doing. I apparently have forgotten how to do that. The windshield seems to have some sort of film on it, inside and outside. I've cleaned the outside like I usually do, with an ammonia-free window cleaner, followed by a coat of RainX on clean towels. That resulted in obvious streaks across the windshield. I then tried some Windex, and it appears to be picking up and moving stuff around the windshield so where I stop rubbing, I can see the pattern of the cloth, or paper towel, on the windshield when looking through it. There is no ceramic or wax coating on the windshield that I know of. I certainly wasn't billed for any such 'treatment', so since the dealership wants to charge you for even looking at the thing sitting in the parking lot, am pretty sure nothing like that has happened.

So far, I've tried:

Said ammonia-free cleaner
isopropyl alcohol
some whiz-bang glass cleaner we use in the house on the mirrors
Brakekleen - starting to get desperate
water
some glasses cleaner we get from our optometrist

Nothing is working. Usually, I just hit it with Windex and RainX, followed by wadded up newspaper. We have no newspaper in the house, so I couldn't try that.

Working on the inside of the windshield made things even worse. I figure that's probably a film from outgassing plastic bits, maybe combined with whatever crap the dealer used when prepping the truck for delivery.

So, what's the secret? I'm so frustrated and hurting from all the bending and folding I'm done for today before I do something in rage I'll be sorry for. Failing any solution offered here, I may try some 75% IPO tomorrow. Thank you!
