Center console safe

In Texas we carry our guns where it is legal, open carry or concealed.. where there are restrictions what they don't know won't hurt us. And we shoot first ask questions later. I do...LOL

The GM center console vaults are made by Console Vault.
The one you buy through a GM parts counter is the same thing you buy from Console Vault’s website.
I’ve had one in my current and past two trucks and they are great to keep things from the “look in the wondow, smash and grab and run” crowd. Someone with some muscle, 3 minutes, and a large screw driver is going to get it.
Its also handy “safekeeping” spot for a place with Valet parking, or when you drop it off for service.

But its not a safe deposit box in a bank’s vault… Its a few steps above a locking glove box, and a step below a steel heavy duty cross bed tool box with padlocks. As long as you understand that and use it for its intended purpose, it great.

Not sure how different the console is in the HD vs the 1500, but I bought one from Tuffy Security Products. I’ve had one of their center consoles in my CJ7 for years and it’s stout. It was easy to install and seems well made. Can’t put much in it, but it serves the purpose for me.

I have the GM accessories console safe. Installed it myself. Very easy to do. Fitment is nice. Cut out in the safe aligns with the light in the console so that the interior of the safe is illuminated. I have 2 trays, the factory one, and one I got on Amazon that lays beneath it. I had to hole-saw the Amazon one so the key knob of the safe fits through it, but it is extra storage for pens, tire gauges, etc.
Only thing I would do different, that I had to pull it out and reinstall it, is to put the edge gasket on first, and not once it is installed. It is easier to grab the nibs of the gasket from the backside with a needle nose pliers to pull them through the holes of the safe. They are a tight fit and its easier to install out of the vehicle.

i've seen some videos where some of these console safes can be popped open by a flat tip screwdriver.
I remember seeing some brand that put a bracket or something to prevent a screwdriver from being wedged into the gap were the latch is, to prevent this.

So i've been thinking of getting one of those metal vaultek safes and strapping it under the seat or something, for the rare chances i actually cant carry and have to keep it in the truck

Back in the day in the 80's, when I had an SUV like body built on a Nissan army truck chassis, I had them build a hidden/ secret armoured compartment under the left passenger seat floor (long bench). I used to store electronics and backup battery power to my hand built wireless radar proximity detector, documents, cash and valuables if any. That storage saved my life (figuratively) on one occasion. No, I never used it to transport anything illegal. Now such storage spaces show up on x-ray machines.

I miss my Truckvault's that were in my government vehicles! Those things were stout and secure, but you lose the truck bed.

Console Vault shows a tray installed. Don't know what the factory tray looks like, if it the oem tray or not...

On a side note. Those grain bins are the most vivid I have ever seen. Beats the hell out of just seeing galvanized bins all day long!
Pretty sure I have this installed. I’m a fan. Can post a picture shortly. The factory tray does fit over the top.
