I am a newish owner of a 2026 Sierra 1500 AT4X (non AEV) in Sterling Metallic. Absolutely loving the truck so far, and have learned a lot from lurking here. So far I’ve done the Range DFM stop/start disabler, Bakflip Gen 4 folding tonneau, the VLED license plate frame reverse light, and changed the oil more frequently than I probably otherwise would have. My question is about the leather care on the AT4X. I get my truck dirty, but have always been really fastidious about keeping the interiors of my 4wd vehicles clean. I just enjoy it. I even keep an air duster in the console to blow dust and junk out the cracks when idling (Wolfbox, great little gadget by the way). Oh I also have a BillieBars marine foam immersion tailgate cover on the way that I will try and review for the group as it’s a fairly expensive, but unique mod that I am sure a few here have at least considered.
I understand that the GM leather is described full grain, but it seems pretty bonded and processed for durability. Is there any way to tell which surfaces are essentially artificial and should be treated like vinyl, (like the dash and padded bolsters / upper glove box appear to be) and which are real leather and need to be conditioned like leather? I don’t want to be putting leather conditioner on vinyl, but want to protect the dash and other surfaces from UV rays, but want to keep the leather in good shape.
Any advice on interior products and AT4/AT4X leather care, or tips tricks from folks who have had their trucks longer than me would really be appreciated. Thanks!
