About to Purchase an AT4 or ZR2 - Why One Over The Other

The AT4x has a front locker? I'm not seeing anything on it. Got a picture of the piano key?

ETA...The G80 has seen alot of off-roads in its life! What, it has been 50 years already? 😁
This is way late, but I mis-remembered. It's definitely just the 1500 that has it. I could've sworn I've seen a video with the 2500 with it but it must've been a dream.

I really gotta chime in.

i spent much time, months actually, researching, test driving, and just contemplating this purchase.

Once I realized there is zero comparison opportunity between the ZR2 and the AT4, I dug a little deeper.

The AT4 is only comparable to the TrailBoss. The AT4 and ZR2 are two completely different trucks and different purposes. This is evident from the suspension alone.

AT4 has Twin Tube Rancho suspension.

ZR2 has Multimatic DSSV dampers.

Some other bits like skid plates and a few other entry and exit differences.

I appreciate what I see from the OPs post. Or what I am perceiving. The OP has a budget and the AT4 and ZR2 are within it.

In short, bang for your buck in regards to capabilities, the ZR2 beats the AT4/AT4X hands down.

I was considering an AT4X just because it was a GMC and I thought I wanted the nicer interior. However, the difference in price tag and my realization that I am buying an off-road beast designed to tow a fifth wheel up the side of a mountain; the interior faded away lol.

In short, AT4 and ZR2 are not the same truck and have different purposes.

The AT4X and ZR2 only have a difference in interior in regards to material, layout, and massaging seats (WTF lol. This is an even more up charge btw). This is a case of saving 15-20k or more.

But to the positive. OP the purchase is awesome as long you are happy with it. That’s the key specially since it is a sizable one.

For me, it was the interior.
Agree with you - for me it was the interior and the front end - just liked the GMC front end, bumper, headlights better on the AT4 than the ZR2 - and I've been in several Chevy 2500's for last 15 years and 2500 Suburban's before that... My dealer sells both but was giving me a hard time on giving up the bow tie.

And Congrats!! and Welcome
