3.0 Duramax vs 6.2L V8 - which option is best?

An easier way to put this, trucks aren’t meant for racing, they are meant for towing. So, get yourself a diesel with torque instead of a gas guzzling motor for horsepower. If hp is want you want then get a sports car.I
I race my trucks everyday....to each their own...

Oh, I get it. I’m just an old skewl geezer that likes HP when I mash on the skinny pedal, and the ability to haul my planes around when I need too. My towing days are behind me. Can’t haul my giant scale models in the back of a hellcat or corvette very well, so the next best thing for ME is a quick, well built, reliable peek up! 😎😎

Neither. I would never consider a baby diesel; what’s the point? If you tow, go big, if you want mileage, get a car. The 6.2 has terrible diminished value, I nicknamed mine “The Turd.”

It’s the world we live in. Mileage or muscle! Both in a single package isn’t gonna happen. But I’ve had em all. I was lucky enough to have a 2017 6.2 that was an absolutely awesome rig. Scored well on that trade to a 2022 Denali Duramax 1-ton which was a frickin Covid nightmare. I named that junk the Covid special. I’m positive it was the 1st or 2nd truck to roll off the assembly line that year. Horrible truck. Off loaded that junk for a 2025 6.2 that’s been a peach. Did my homework, got lucky w the 6.2s in front of and behind the bad years. Meh

I have a 2025 Duromax 1500 AT4 bought back in March, I was more focused on MPGs as well but this was my first diesel so I was a bit hesitant. I LOVE this damn truck and engine. I rarely tow anything so it wasn’t a need for me, I drive 35ish miles each way to work, mix of city and highway, and I’m average over the last 11,800 miles, 24.649 MPG (I manually track and calculate my MPGs because I’m crazy like tha) at an average of 3.099 per gallon…. I love filling up and seeing 600 miles to empty too

I just bought my second 3.0 Duramax in October. The first wasn't the "MAX Tow" package so my mileage was super good. This one is a great rig. I agree. The mileage is important but the ride, the features, and I do tow a 30 foot travel trailer so I enjoy the tow capacity as well. A few minor things drive me crazy but all in all, I love the truck. The infotainment system is troublesome. The power and home button don't work on my truck and I hear it is a common problem on all of the 2025. Otherwise, great pickup with plenty of muscle for a mid-size rig.

Get used to a buggy POS infotainment system. It’s doing exactly what an infotainment sys should NOT do. It’s garbage. Mine has been reset so many times, I don’t bother doing it any more. From what I’ve read GM is re-doing the system for 2026/2027?? partly or completely so who knows what kind of crap is on the horizon. My junk keeps dropping the current speed limit display on the dash, but still shows up on the HUD. It says I need a subscription??? Garbage software that simply isn’t ready for full time use, which is pretty sad when you think about it, there’s only a few target functions it really needs to do, but can’t do those functions consistently over time. It’s just buggy crap…… BUT, I’d still take it over Ford or Ram ANY day. Just saying.

Yeah I agree. I have had the Ford F150 and the RAM. I will keep this truck over those, even with the gremlins in the info-tainment system.

Wow first time I've heard of this. Did you have it replaced under warranty? Since around 2019 or so every single Infotainment 3 system I have come across has been amazing. Lightning speed and the best HD quality of any other manufacturer.

I was told by the dealership that a new update was being sent out in November 2025. That turned out to be false. Honestly, I just kind of gave up on it. I just don't use the power button or home button on the dash. Instead I use the touch screen home button and turn the power off by volume control. Stupid that we have to do that with a truck that only has 3000 miles on it.

I have a 2025 1500 AT4X, as far as the infotainment system goes, I haven't experienced any major issues yet (10,400 miles), if i had to say something negative about it, every once in a while it will just go silent on me for about 2-3 seconds, just the sound. It always comes right back on though. On my next service, Ill probably mention it to them and see what they recommend.
