Well I cheaped out on the VR series winch. I don’t anticipate using it much, although I have already found myself in a couple situations where I turned back because I didn’t have that extra security of the winch. Walking out of the northern Minnesota forest at night is not an option if you knew how bad the mosquitoes are there. I nearly peed myself because I didn’t even want to get out of the truck to relieve myself. Seriously, my second home is in the heart of the southern Louisiana Cajun swampland and the mosquitoes in northern MN are 10 times worse…but I digress. Every vehicle I have has a Warn winch. My old dodge diesel has an antique 8274 and it has never let me down. Let’s hope the Chyna version doesn’t.

Them mosquitos would have gladly carried you away. They are not joke up there. I know first hand you're not exaggerating..

Another update:
I bought a 14’X7.5’(w)X7’(h) (plus a 3’V) enclosed trailer up in Northern MN near the Canadian border. I used to live up there years ago and I left my 72” MAC toolbox and needed to get it home to central New Mexico — I needed a decent trailer for my RZR anyways and it beats tent camping. The trailer is aluminum and weighs 1900lbs dry. My toolbox, tools and other miscellaneous stuff I picked up along the way are easily another 2500lbs.
When I left MN, I was impressed at how well it towed. Plenty of power and it felt solid. When I got to Kansas, the prairie wind kicked up and I was mostly taking a 30-40mph wind on my drivers front-not ideal. The truck still had plenty of power but mpg was single digit at 60mph.
At the end of the day, this little truck has got what it needs to get the job done but I would not do this cross country trip again. I will use my diesel 1ton. For day trips/weekending though it is more than adequate, just make sure to bring lots of gas money.

It was certainly easier in my old full size SUV, however the new truck with DiamondBack HD cover can't carry than many planes under it although thats what I use. I have an open 10x5 trailer, not practical to carry my RC planes in the open, especailly here in PNW.

Thats a good sized trailer. Often thought of getting a somewhat smaller covered trailer, set up to carry/store my larger RC planes to the club field. It was certainly easier in my old full size SUV, however the new truck with DiamondBack HD cover can't carry than many planes under it although thats what I use. I have an open 10x5 trailer, not practical to carry my RC planes in the open, especailly here in PNW.

I got that trailer for pulling my RZR. The little 2.7 didn’t have any lack of power but the wind was pushing me around pretty bad and the mpg was awful.
