Hey all, new owner here and am getting the trucks paint corrected, coated, windows tinted and vehicle partially wrapped. I am going to get the entire front wrapped and am considering having the tailgate wrapped to protect it. It’s been a long time since I had a pickup and can’t recall if dirt gathers on a tailgate on a pickup like it does on an SUV. I had the rear gate on my SUV wrapped because it gathered tons of dirt/dust and wrap allowed me to brush off the dirt without worrying about scratching it.

Anyway, thanks for the input and ideas.

It'll get dirty but when deciding to put PPF on something I'm more concerned about rock chips and scratches. The tail gate is not at too much risk for that, even driving on a gravel road.

However... if you're like me and you like to load things in and out of your truck bed by leaning against the tailgate or rear quarter panels, then you are inevitably going to scratch the shit out of your paint. Buttons, pocket knives, etc. So in my case, I put PPF on the tail gate and rear quarter panels anyway.

It's expensive. From a strictly financial perspective, it's also not likely "worth it". But if you're like me, scratches cause you to fixate on the problems of your truck, taking away from your personal enjoyment. You have to decide what that's worth to you and how likely you are to scuff up your paint.
