Ok. I ended up running the rear camera to the bumper because the 5% tint on rear made it where I couldn’t install on the inside- and the wires showing on the outside didn’t look good in my opinion. So the process was:
1. Install and format MicroSD card (1 minute)
2. Connect GPS, Power, and Rear Camera cables to camera (10 seconds)
3. Mount camera (20 seconds)
4. Hide GPS cable going to passenger side- routed thru area between headliner and windshield. Then removed a pillar (2 10mm bolts) and routed wire behind there). Then secured GPS sensor with the provided 3M double sided tabs. Reinstalled A pillar. (10 minutes)
5. Routed rear camera wire between headliner and windshield on driver’s side. Same process as GPS, removed A pillar and routed cable behind there. Took cable down driver’s side door and hid behind weather stripping- all the way to door sill. Removed door sill (just gently pop off) and routed under. Then raised carpet and routed down through firewall. There is a grommet underneath the driver’s side carpet that simply pops off. Ran cable underneath, pulled slack out and reinstalled grommet. (15 minutes)
6. Got underneath the truck and followed existing wire harness on truck to rear bumper. Zip tied along the way being sure not to get close to heat or pinch. (10 minutes) I did have to use an extension for the rear camera cable, as the one they provided came up just a bit short.
7. Drilled a small on on outside plastic bumper covering to run the camera cable through. Then ran cable behind license plate and connected. Attached rear camera to bumper with 3M tape and two tiny screws. All cable is 100% hidden and out of view. (10 minutes)
8. Went back to cab and routed power cable same as GPS cable but did it on the driver’s side. Ran between headliner and windshield, behind A Pillar, under driver’s side top of the carpet behind pedals, along side center console and up to power port. Carefully tucked all cable in and behind. Reattached A pillar. Plugged in to cigarette lighter. (10 minutes) I didn’t hardwire the power to fuse box as i did not want it on 24/7. That is a personal choice. I just connected to the cigarette lighter and all cable is pretty much hidden from view. I did move the fuse for the cigarette lighted to the slot that gives it power only when ignition is on. So now the camera only comes on when I start the truck. If I ever do want it on 24/7 I just simply move the fuse. This gives me the ability to change where hardwired does not. (10 minutes)
9. Adjusted setting on camera and DONE!
Really a very simple install. You have many options on how you want to mount and where you want to mount. This is just the route I took. Doesn’t make it best- just what I preferred.
i will post pics. Not posting an install video because there are literally hundreds of them on YouTube as well as hundreds of dash cam reviews. If you plan on buying one watch some of those videos as they are very informative and helpful.
