Unable to update

Turned off the truck after getting home from work and got a message that the truck needed to update, to turn off the engine, and that the update would take 15 minutes. I hit OK and a your truck will update in x seconds timer started counting down but then the cannot update screen popped up. I moved the truck and put in in park but the same message is popping up. I'll try again tomorrow, if it doesn't work I'll call the dealer.

Today my screen said there was and update, and it would take about 15 minutes. I did the update and the truck said it completed successfully. After that, truck would not start. After 30 minutes and about 5 different people on OnStar, they arranged for a tow truck to the dealer. Truck only...

It's far less risky to do the update with an SPS2 subscription, J2534 pass through, and a USB flash drive - this is the way the dealer also does it. My 2024 Sierra would never say OTA updates were available, even when I knew there was a newer software release. I recently updated a bunch of module calibrations on my truck with SPS2 and the infotainment update went very smoothly.

Dealers in my area charge to update module calibrations unless you have a fault. In my case I just want the latest software so it's easier to just do it myself - also I don't generally let dealer techs touch my truck for anything less than a catastrophic failure. The SPS2 subscription is only $45 and allows you to update all your modules within two years, which is a pretty fair deal to me.

But you need additional interface equipment and a laptop right? Can you please describe which equipment and approximate cost of each (excluding the laptop).

You need a J2534 pass through device - I use one from Topdon that works on basically every modern car in my household (other than my wife's Tesla, but that is a whole other ball game). At a little over $200 it basically paid for itself the first time I used it.

Dealer is doing my update next week, same time I get a free oil change and a new filler cap!!

If you have anything plugged into your OBD the truck will keep failing to update with the OTA updates.

That's what I thought as well. I unplugged my iDash but the update still would not run

Been at the dealer for about 2 hours. The service manager just told me the tech is not able to get the update to run. They are going to run a check on a couple of modules now. If that doesn't work I might have to leave the truck

3 hours at the dealer and there not sure what the problem is. Said they have had issues in the past getting a reliable connection to GM's servers in the afternoon. Taking the truck back in the morning

I had a similar issue when my update screwed up; there are times when connection to GM servers can fail even at the dealer. Way back in the past I had a similar issue with my Mercedes, connecting to Mercedes in Germany when we were trying to reprogram my ECU. The internet is not always reliable at the best of times; be patient!

I Brought the truck back in this morning. As I pulled into the dealership I got a notification that an update was available. I took that as a good sign. An hour or so later the truck was updated.
