Traction Bars...

The idea would be the same for a drag application need, i.e. reduce axle rotation and wheel hop. For a diesel truck the amount of torque can cause stress on the axle while towing, climbing hills and accelerating.

Ryan has a good video showing how rear axels can rotate, even in a non-drag situation.

Thanks for the video, after watching it, my opinion is that traction bars are not required for any GM diesel for normal driving and up to and including maximum towing. The LZO produces 495 lb ft. of torque and that is not near enough torque to produce abnormal axle wrap. My definition of abnormal axle wrap is when you hear banging because the diff has wrapped or unwrapped past the allowable range of the U jts.

I used to tow a 40' toyhauler with my LMM Dually with Banks Tune and it did not require any additional axle support. I know several Hot Shot drivers that tow in the oilfield for a living with Ford, Dodge and Chev towing triple tandem trailers off road and chained up in some cases and none have ever required torsion bars.

The only time one might consider the installation of these is if you encounter severe wheel hop, as you might get while chained up but not in the majority of driving situations. Bottom line as the owner of the truck you purchase and install whatever you feel is necessary. :) JMO

Awesome feedback! Much appreciated. I think at a cost of $900+ ill look at other more reasonable upgrades before traction bars. What would you recommend be my first upgrade? I am hearing that a Banks cold air intake is what a lot of owners are looking at as one of their top 5 upgrades. Im also hearing don't do anything, as the stock LM2 and LZ0 engines are pretty solid already.

I have bought and would recommend an idash 8 from Banks if you like to keep an eye on the regens, boost etc, but it doesn't enhance the power, drive ability etc.
When the Derringer is approved for the LM2 I will purchase it and it may also work on your LZ0?? As far as I know their is no cold air intake from Banks for the LM2/LZ0. They do have a pedal monster that changes the pedal response to give you quicker acceleration etc. but no additional HP/TQ. It may be available soon for the LZO.

Good luck with your new truck and any mods you decide to purchase. ;)

Nice to know, thanks. My 2 cents- I have owned a number of Duramax Diesels (all were 2500HD), I routinely loaded 15 rounds bales at about 1200 each plus the gooseneck, never had a problem. I would haul, full size backhoe and tractors and such. I was always worried about stopping my load even with trailer brakes. Regardless, good luck in your search and keep us posted. All here to gain info!
