Toolbox or Bed Cover

Depending on year and bed style, it may be possible to have both.

I almost went that route, but decided against it because I'm using crossbars to hold my tent . Combining all of the above would work on a standard or long bed, but I only have the short 5' 8" bed on mine. As a result, a tent above it would make it impossible to access the toolbox.
 

Bed cover. I had a tool box for 15 years. Ought my first bed cover in 2014 and use Milwaukee pack out tool boxes.
Id never go back. It’s like having a giant trunk that’s pretty secure.
I put the pace Edwards ultra groove electric on my at4, Has T channel for over the bed track systems.

bed cover for me so that i can cover the whole bed rather than just the 1st part of it. if one needs more secure storage then bed cover +
decked system seems like the smart bet

Retractable bed cover here, and planning to add a rack to hold my tent soon. Needed a combo for boondocking that would still allow full access to all the camping supplies, riding gear, and tools in my bed.

I've had both. I think a lot of it depends on where you live too. Do you like shoveling snow out of your bed? Currently have a Gator EFX tri-fold on 23' standard bed.
 

Curious to hear/see from the group, toolbox or retractable bed cover?

I’m running a 22 standard white crew cab AT4 and need storage. I’ve always had Weatherguard boxes (crossovers) on my Ford’s, but considering a change by going with a Retrax cover.

What says you?
I got the retrax mx1 bed cover and do not like it. As it leaks badly. The sides leak and the tailgate leaks.

My brother had a retrax that leaked really bad and retrax sent him a new one under warranty.
 

In my opinion the bed sizes in these trucks are pretty small to begin with and by adding a tool box just gives you that much less room. I went the bed cover route, the tri fold type, and really like the decision. A tool box may be more secure but in the end, you're only keeping the honest people out of it because anything can be broken into.
