Bought a new ride for work last year so I could keep up with the company's reimbursement package. I need some amount of bed storage for tools, boots, fall harness, etc. but it feels like a toolbox takes up half the bed length. The other ride (Ram 2500) has the built-in Ramboxes and a Bakflip cover which has worked great.

First look was a hardtop Diamondback cover with tool bins under the front doors, but then I don't have the ability to carry taller items that might stick up above the bed rails. Anyone had the same problem making up your mind and found another solution? A toolbox now with the option of a shorter retractable cover for the rest of the bed later would be lovely.

Or I could just get the Diamondback and hook up a trailer for taller stuff. Thoughts?

I had the Decked storage system in my last truck and I loved it. I'm trying to figure out how it would work in my new truck with the AC outlet in the bed and the assist handle for the tailgate.

I had it for 6 years so I was a fairly early adopter. I was very tough on it and ultimately the top did get a few small cracks but again I treated like the bed of my truck. I would throw stuff in it. (rocks, hitch inserts, fire wood, etc.) those cracks started to let water in. I had to seal them up. the drawers and the weight capacity were never an issue. I'm not a tall guy so it was nice having access to all the items in my tool box without having to climb into the bed of the truck.
