Technology tracking shut off

Last I recall, OnStar can prevent the car from being started, but cannot shut it off once running. The latter could be very dangerous. But they won't do anything if you aren't a subscriber.
To do this yourself would essentially be hacking your own car. If it were easy for you to do it, it would be easy for malicious actors to do it too.
The only way I can see it being possible is MAYBE if you had the full code scanner/programmer like a dealer uses, left it plugged in and running, and then gave yourself remote access to it somehow so you could send a command like OnStar can.

It has crossed my mind. There was a guy who disabled/bypassed the onstar in the older trucks. He was concerned with this exact same thing. He got a lot of flak for being a tin foil hat thinker. IMO I think he and you could be on too something especially in the climate of the world we live in. That said its a minority thinking and I don’t think there is enough interest in it and unfortunately most people like the tech and would say if your that scared buy a pre 2000 vehicle and go back to your bunker.
On a side note I kinda just hope for the better and think Im un important enough to track etc.
I personally had an experience where my son had my ex wife track his truck via on-star after he was given it to him. She paid for the service through insurance or something and they/she knew exactly where it was. Thats the only reason I know about disabling it from my research after that unpleasant experience.

I agree. Was just curious if there was a savvy tech person here to weigh in. Several reasons for the inquiry which I will spare from this group discussion.
