I have the baby diesel and I’m getting what sounds like a transmission or front gear box noise. It does t occur all the time but seems to be happening more frequently now. Sounds a bit like a starter spinning right before a gear change. It lasts into several other gears before the regular engine noise drowns it out. Has anyone experienced this noise and what is it?

The 3.0l gets full torque at 1500 RPMs, so you will get a significant spooling below 2k RPMs. Is the sound you are hearing a whistling sound or a whining sound?
Whistling = Turbo
Whining = Trans or gear box

Any hard shifting issues? Or weird transmission things happening?

Transmissions are quite complex so to hear a sound, without any associated operating issues, wouldn’t be too common. Could potentially be some sort of driveline issue, but you would notice other vibrations associated with that. It just be turbo noise. Your engine is hardly broken in yet. Could also be your tires. The OEM Goodyears really started to make noise for me around the 6000 mile mark.

As Cocoabean said, take it to the dealer and have them inspect it if you’re worried.

May be best to take it to the dealer to figure out. It should be under warranty.
Didn’t make it to the dealer. Truck went completely dead. Wouldn’t start and could not get it into neutral or release parking brake. In the shop now. I’ll update when I get more info back on the cause. The sound is not normal and wasn’t the turbo. Sounded more like a main bearing issue to me as it started while the truck was in neutral and continued after going into gear and through several gear shifts.

Sorry to hear it all went dead for you. Hopefully they'll have answers and replacement parts for you quickly.

My 2022 AT4X 6.2L did the exact same thing. Started making a weird fluttering sound and died in two days. Left me stranded on the side of the interstate. Currently it has been at the dealer for 40 days waiting on a new engine.

They ordered a new starter (back ordered). Been in the shop for 21 days. I don’t think the starter is the only issue. They won’t know until they get it and try to start it. Seems like the noise may have been the starter gear not recoiling all the way and remaining partially engaged after the car was running. Concerned about additional internal damage.

30 days in and no word on when the part (supposedly the starter) will be available. I don’t want to sell it back to GM or Lemon Law it, but I may have to start considering that option soon.
