gmorning boys, I bought this truck with the K&N air intake kit on it already so when you crank up you get this message on the dash. Was told by the dealer it needs a GMC software download to change how it reads the airflow. She claims it was $500 to do this. Is this something I can download and install myself or is that a terrible idea and I should let the dealer handle it? All feedback is appreciated.

When the CAI was installed, the installer should have shut off the air filter life gauge in the settings on the dic.

You might get by, by shutting off that setting in the dic and unhooking the battery for an hour.

ETA...I can't remember seeing anything on my scanner to do it. I wasn't looking for that, so it might be available on a bidirectional scanner.

Disconnect your batteries overnight, reconnect in the morning and disable your filter reminder.

The moment you said "she said" should've been the moment you found yourself a new service advisor. She sounds like someone who should consult for jiffy lube. You can't change how a truck reads airflow after spending $500 for a software upgrade. Classic dealer rip off

The only company that's figured out how to circumvent that so far is Banks with their adapter. So if you want that reminder you either have to go with banks or go through a weight loss program +custom tune.

OK, tell me like I’m five, how do I disable the reminder? Is that in the settings of the touchscreen console – thing?

OK, I watched that video twice and I went to my truck and did those exact steps twice and I do not have the ability to edit or delete. I just clicked the center button and the red check life verbiage never allows me to edit or removed. I do have the ability to uncheck the box but that’s it. What am I doing wrong?

Just uncheck the box

Well I did that long ago and it's still popping up when I crank the truck....
Well, I don't know what to tell you besides that., search up on Google with your truck make model and year with the description of the issue I.e how to turn off air filter reminder on XXX and see what you can find, maybe there's a different way to do it. Or your filter might actually need cleaning if it wasn't doing that before. Spending $500 for a software upgrade is crazy.
